Or you could shorten it to Nico, I love that (rather than Nic) I do love the name Nicos as well!0

Hi there Kentmum!
Are you specifically looking at Greek names, or are you after something that is just a little different? (just curious)
Personally, I like both of the names you have suggested but prefer Zayden. I know it is similar to Jayden etc but I just like the way it sounds.
I've always hated my name for being too common. Where ever I go, there are at least 2 other people with the same name! Even in a school with only 4 other girls in my year, one of them had the same name. I hated that. I much prefer names that stick out a little more, something more unique.

I can only assume your son is of pre-school age which is why that will be the case at the moment. However if you are planning on sending your children to public schools, you won't be there to lead by example.
So if the name shortening bothers you, I would suggest you choose another name. Although as I mentioned previously, you will still have no control over what he is called outside of your home and presence. Boys quite often get called by their surnames for example, something I thought had stopped years ago until I heard it!
Well Yannis is in Reception and so far they all call him Yannis, which is great so hopefully that will carry on now all through his school years, but as you say you never know whats going to happen, I can't control everything !!
Also I do like Xander but we already have a Xander in the family so wouldn't be able to go with that one, but i do like it x:beer:0 -
I don't personally like most of the names mentioned on this thread (although Nicos is OK ), but I'm an old fogey, having turned 60 this week.
I have quite a long name (Belinda);I am never referred to as anything else as I always correct people if they shorten it to Lin or Bel. Some people call me Brenda, or Barbara, or Beverley, I correct them too. So the vast majority of the time I get called by my name.
My son's name is Ben. It is not short for anything. However, people do try and call him Benjamin and he always corrects them too and refuses to answer to it.
If you stick to your guns you will be called the name you prefer (but he might actually prefer Nic).(AKA HRH_MUngo)

I vote for Nicos too, but like one of the pp's I like Nico even better, (pronounced neeco). I know a young man whose name is Nikolai, and he gets called Nico, and it just has a lovely ring to it. Zayden sounds like one of those made up names to me, but I'm not one to talk, both mine have fairly unusual names for around these parts! It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your window

Me personally i don't like either. but then you may not like my childrens names. i think tho when you choose a name you know the first time you hear it , it stands out and grows on you.
As for names being shortened my husband is an Oliver. Always been an oliver. He parents/grandparents have never shortened it. he is 30 this year and they still call him oliver. his work mates/friends and i tho shorten it.
And as for my daughter. People try to make it Longer !! Her name is Tori. Stand alone name of just Tori. But the amount of people that say Ah so shes a victoria then. Um no! if her name was victoria we'd be calling her victoria.,lol.0 -

Funny you should say that, because if I have Nicos I want it to be pronounced (Neecos or Kneecos) if thats makes any sense I don't want it to be pronounced Nickcos.
I am going off Zayden more and more now anyway, so proberly Nicos, now how to spell it, would it be Nicos or Nikos ??:T
thanks:beer:0 -
Are you Greek ?0

I think to keep up with the Greek theme I would go for Nikos. I think people are more likely to pronounce it the way you want first time if it's spelled that way.
ETA oops cross posted I was thinking that too. It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your window
