Just correct everyone who shortens it and only call him Nicos. Of course, when hes a teenager he can call himself what he likes........lol
Thats true Im sure he will be called a few things when his a teenager !! haha
Anyway like you said if I don't shorten it then hopefully no-one else will, no-one has shortened Yannis yet, one friend used to call him Yan Yan but thats when he was a tiny baby and she was baby talking to him otherwise so far so good x:T0 -
I named my little boy Nathaniel and am forever getting people mispronouncing/misspelling it or trying to call him Daniel!! lol but I never wanted anyone to shorten it and noone does - he refuses to let them!!!!! My DD however has a far more 'common' name and apart from at school no-one calls her by her full name!!!
I prefer slightly less 'common' names (onlly reason DD has one is because I let DH choose it and he likes traditional names!) and if we ever had anymore (whch we definately wont!!!) then a girl would be Savannah (alternative to DH other fave girls name Susannah!) and if it was a boy it would be Xander.
I think baby names are such a personal prference - I occassionally hear names and think oh my I would never call my child that but as long as its nota name that is going to get them bullied for then its each to their own!!!0 -
Nearly every name can be shortened though. I know very few people who go by the long version of their name.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

nicos is okay - but it will be shortened to nic or nicky. why not look at other greek boys names? http://www.babynames.org.uk/greek-boy-baby-names.htmThose who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0

I always use my full name, all 9 letters, although it can be shortened to lots of different things. My parents always called me by proper name and I just ignored anyone who shortened it!0 -

My little boys name is Xander and im forever telling people that it is not short for Alexander.
Nicos is nice too i liked this as a name but my oh point blank refused, but then some people point blank refuse to call my son by xander and use his middle name instead
I had Xavier, Sebastian, Zabian and Zach on stand by lolThere's this place in me where your fingerprints still rest, your kisses still linger, and your whispers softly echo. It's the place where a part of you will forever be a part of me.

I quite like the names but to go with Yannis, I also think that Joachim, Seth, Kai or Rico go well too. But its also a question of what sounds right to you.0

If you want to be sure nobody gives him a nickname you don't like you'll have to go for un-shortenable one syllable name (like my parents did for my brother and me and I'd have loved a nickname as a teenager!).0

Funny enough I did suggest Rico a while ago, and my other half shot my down in flames as well !! haha0

Please don't make this assumption, unless you are planning to Homeschool.
I can only assume your son is of pre-school age which is why that will be the case at the moment. However if you are planning on sending your children to public schools, you won't be there to lead by example.
So if the name shortening bothers you, I would suggest you choose another name. Although as I mentioned previously, you will still have no control over what he is called outside of your home and presence. Boys quite often get called by their surnames for example, something I thought had stopped years ago until I heard it!0
