I'm thinking about cancelling the milk delivery. Prices have just gone up again and the 4pt cartons of milk are often on a 2 for £3 offer in supermarkets. I'm in supermarkets most days for work, so it's no hassle to buy milk after a job. I just feel guilty telling the lady we don't want milk anymore :o

I do both, we have a pint a day from Milkman and then I top up from supermarket at weekend.... It is a bit more exspensive but convenient as last night I realised that we were low on FF for Henry so just put a note out in the empties!! Plus my mum pays the bill anyway:money::D

Scruffy - Happy belated birthday :)

Weezl - I echo what GISI has just typed. You are so lovely thinking about everyone else and their feelings but you do need to think about yourself.

Also, I thought the quote from Susan's DH (I think it was yesterday) is brilliant - "breast is best but formula isn't poison".

    Happy belated birthday Scruffy

Weezl, you do need to think of yourself and not others. I quite agree with Choppy/ Susan as well.... I had to accept with both of mine that BF wasnt for me even though I did try for a while - my OH kept telling me not to beat myself up about it but it was hard as my big sis had managed to BF both hers for like 6 months...Whats right for some is not right for others:grouphug:

I use 40p a mile as my reference point when debating whether a bargain is worth travelling to ;)
Do you think it actually costs that much? I reckon ours is 10p for petrol, 10p for servicing, repairs, insurance, tax, MOT etc and 10p for depreciation (if you average depreciation over the lifetime fo the car). I tend not to allow for depreciation though as that would happen regardless of an individual journey as would a lot of the other costs so I usually reckon on about 15p when looking at the cost vs. benefit of a particular journey.

I do wonder if it would be better to invest more into breast feeding support in practical ways instead of just bombarding everyone with "breast is best" propaganda as I'm sure that (almost) everyone knows that it is best but that knowledge doesn't help if you are really struggling with breastfeeding and then gives people guilt when they end up not breastfeeding. I remember reading about a WHO programme in an African country where they educated prospective mothers and prospective fathers not only about the benefits of breastfeeding but about the practical side including how to express. I think they were aiming to raise breastfeeding rates to around 80% but it was so successful that rates went up to about 97% (IIRC). I'm sure that kind of programme would be far more successful and I know that in my case, if OH had not been supportive and had suggested FF when I was really struggling I probably would have agreed to it (and then regretted it later). I'm glad though that at least in this country although people do feel guilty about not breastfeeding there is not a stigma attached to formula feeding. I have an Australian friend who just didn't produce milk so she had to FF. She tried to avoid feeding her baby in public because she would get random strangers coming up to her telling her that she shouldn't have had a baby if she didn't care enough to breastfeed it.

And speaking of WHO reports, weezl, I also read a WHO report about traditional cord clamping/cutting and cord stump care practices in developing countries and it recommended delaying cord clamping by at least a minute because of the benefits. (Because I wanted to find something about delayed cord clamping which was a proper official thing and not just some persons non referenced opinion on the internet.)

Weezl, you have my sympathy with the breastfeeding thing. It was something I was worried about - I get pain and feel sick when anyone touches my breasts, but luckily it was different breastfeeding. Hope you find some understanding.

I also wanted to say I'm about as militant as they come and I can see that breastfeeding isn't an option for you, and I don't think you should feel bad.

today is a day of redoing my bloody spreadsheet that my lovely lappy decided to delete,
That is one of my nightmares - that I might lose a spreadsheet. I back mine up monthly onto a pen drive. I think I would actually cry if I lost one and didn't have a backup.

And going back to breastfeeding, I do sometimes worry about whether I will be able to go through that initial pain barrier again with future babies.
