Ive used avis loads of times, i all ways find it is a lot cheaper to phone the place where you are collecting the car diret, it worked out about 50% cheaper than the uk quote. i have aslo done the same by going onto the countries local website.

....to answer your other question, I have always only shown my Credit Card size driving licence but they also have the right to see the green counterpart. It would be safer to take it with you too should they ask for it.0

Thanks again Mr Warren, I have just returned from Salou and had car hire for a week. I saved loads of money with this code, gained a bonus of 1000 Tescos points and got a few upgrades (ordered a basic 2 dr 1.0L, got 1.9 TDI 5 dr). Over the moon....0

The AVIS price includes CDW BUT there is an excess of £600 per accident
The Excess reduction insurance cost is € 108 + VAT per week and you STILL get stung with £100 excess
SuperCover
I usually look at Carjet for European car hire as ALL 'extras' are included. The only one that can get you is the add-on cost of arriving at the hire place out of hours (08:00-20:00).
Just thought I'd bring this to the front of the thread.
The AVIS code may be cheaper than other quotes but read the EXCESS charges carefully just so you know what you could end up paying for if all doesn't go well.0 -
An alternative is to buy an annual excess cover policy; http://www.insurance4carhire.com for £49 plus 5% tax.
Sorry about repeating myself.0 -
I have just hired two cars from Avis and in both cases the price included SCDW and STP so the only excess if the car was stolen or damaged was a £50 admin fee.
I like the idea of donnie's insurance and would certainly consider if I hired a lot of cars.0 -
Hi Smarmo,
Did you use the Avis code A153700? and were you asked for identification.
Thanks

Just to say thank you for this tip - we travelled to Rodez Airport and were met by a super Avis Representative - who was waiting for us - we hired a new Micra Sport - with a substantial saving -thanks again - it is reccommendedTitch0

Duckcity - yes, that's the code. I booked using the code and then - being careful not to reveal my identity - I called them to check whether or not it was a staff code. Avis confirmed it's just a discount code and were very happy for me to use it without question. I can only tell you that I had no problems whatsoever. Hope it goes well for you.
