  • That's right, you ARE paranoid. Avis will not discuss these discount codes with you and many people here can confirm it. I have used the codes many times and presented my driving licence on collection. Signed the form and got the keys.

I have used the codes supplied by Mr Warren twice in Europe with success - Thanks !
I now want to make a reservation in Canada and find these codes do not work.
I have found a terrific rate using A153700 but understand this is an Avis employee code and ID is almost always requested on collection.
Has anyone used this code with success or can anyone let me have details of any cheap deals for Canada.

    Thanks

  • Well I have looked into a few possibilities and can suggest the following.

    - First when you hire or intend to hire a car, it pays to try various options as discount codes working in Europe might offer no discount in the US/Canada.
    - Try to log both on https://www.avis.com and https://www.avisworld.com. Both will offer different prices for different rental area. When using avisworld, make sure you choose your country of residence as the country of rental.
    - The following codes offer good results when tried as mentioned above. All codes are easy to “bluff your way” through. None pretend to be for “Avis employees” or “Armed Forces” but more “City Group Financial Services” or “America West Flight Fund!!!!” or even “Tourism Associations” etc.

    - D086533 Marshall School of Business of USC
    - P400000 Tourism Association
    - K020500 “America West Flight Fund”
    - A153700 “Unknown but offering good rates”.
    - L093590 “Citygroup Financial”

For the paranoid and the likes, please note that the worse that can happen is to be charged the full rate. Nobody will end-up in jail using these codes.

If asked for proof of code ownership, play dumb and say that you are on holiday and have left your card at home. From past experience, nobody has ever been asked for proof of membership whilst using the above mentioned codes.

    Safe and happy motoring.

If I read the T&C's correctly then the worst is that if you have an accident you'll be £600 the worse off:eek:

unless you buy extra coverage and you'll still be £100 out of pocket.

Or have I missed something here ?

    Hi All,

I agree with Blindman. Avis have a very high excess (£600-£1000). They charge £6/day for excess insurance (economy car) and even then you need to pay roughly £100 if u have an accident.

Dependent on the car group you go for, even with the AWD code, this may not be the most competitive deal.

I would recommend TravelSupermarket car hire checker. i found a really good deal for 1 week rental in Portugal with an all inclusive car rental price (eg no hidden excess insurances!)

    Hope this helps.

  • Blindman, conditions of rental differ from one country to another, I paid £2/day extra last week in Jersey (UK) to cover my CW for such an event. Always the positive thinker hum?

I'm not criticising your AWD codes, good post on your behalf in getting people a discount.

However as I said in my first post, ALL T&C's must be looked at when renting cars as there are ALWAYS hidden extra's.

You don't need to be involved in an accident to pay the excess:
One of my rentals had a stone chip in the windscreen (I remember getting hit by something days earlier). I would have had to pay for it's repacement had I not got complete cover from airline network.

Did the extra £2/day also get rid of the £100 excess?

How did this compare with other firms that don't charge any excess?
  • Paying the extra £10 (£2 per day) covered me in the event of an accident with £nil excess to pay. Avis was the cheapest not by much but the cheapest.

I checked these codes out on the Avis site for car hire in Spain for November. They certainly make a big difference from the full price, but were still a bit more than Carjet for the comparable cars. Worth using if you are somewhere Carjet don't operate though.
