Does anyone know if those offer codes are still working? I just used them for an 8-day quote in Tenerife for a Class C car (Renault Megane) and it came up with 223.19 pounds. Not sure if this is cheap or not as it is 19th-28th December....... Any ideas??? Thanks.
PS Budget offer code (BN221) worked like a dream but they aren't in the Canaries or Balearics!

Thanks again Mr Warren, I have just returned from Salou and had car hire for a week. I saved loads of money with this code, gained a bonus of 1000 Tescos points and got a few upgrades (ordered a basic 2 dr 1.0L, got 1.9 TDI 5 dr). Over the moon....

Going to Salou on Monday for 3 days. Which codes did you use and any other advise?

    Regards,

  • Hi,
used the initial codes and saved a whopping 40% on a rental in October, just tried them and they no longer work, in fact add £1 to the quote.
So just increased the number to D005301 and it worked! got 40% off. :T

    Hi
I am just trying to get a quote for Italy next summer and it is knocking the code back as invalid. Any ideas why this is?

    TIA

    Hi
Try Code D086533. I have just booked a car in Italy myself with this and got 40% discount.

    Hi,
Any restrictions on either of the last two codes quoted. Don't want to get to pick up and find I needed evidence of where the code came from. I would actually save £50 by using the codes (so very pleased)

Pre-pay rather than paying on collection to be on the safe side (you can cancel and get refund online anyway). They don't seem to care, although your discount code does come up on the hire agreement.

  • As an ex Avis Rent A Car employee, thought i would just highlight a few little points.

Discounts:- If your employed check to see if your company has any affiliation with Avis or use a car rental company, you would be suprised at the amount of people who are unaware that their company or head office is a large account holder with car hire companies, not just Avis. Avis will target large companies who will spend x amount of pounds with them and discount accordingly. If your company uses lease cars, then a car hire company will already be in place to cover whilst cars are in for service or off road etc., discounts will be available. The same goes for subsideries, if your part of a large organisation you can guarantee that they will have a good deal set up with some car hire company, just tell them your company is part of the 'group'. Always ask, you never know until you try. The discount rates are worldwide, however do check as countries do vary the amount of discount.

    Insurances - ugh!
collision damage waiver (CDW) You can opt out of this, but you first must have sent in a copy of your insurance policy which will detail that hire cars are covered to Avis's insurance department and have approval first. I personally have never yet seen someone do this and i worked for them for 11 years! So yes CDW can be classed as compulsory (unless it is a company hire and your company is paying for it!) Insurance excesses differ per account again, but from what i gather the standard fee now is £600. But there is another insurance you can take out to lower the excess fee (SCDW)! Sigh!
Theft Protection (TP) & (STP) Self explanatory really, up to you and the risk you are prepared to take, one way round is if you are driving your car one way collect your car first thing in the morning and deliver it to your destination the same day.
Personal Accident Insurance (PAI) This is one of the insurances we were always pushed to sell, you probably dont need it, especially if you have holiday insurance or medical insurance.

    Collecting yr hire car
Before you drive away with your hire car always check these few things first:-
Damage: You will be given a vehicle damage report, go round your car, inside and out and check the damage (Dont forget wheels). YOU will be liable if any is found at the end of your rental, whether it is a stone chip to paintwork/windscreen make sure it is noted on ALL the copies of the VDR before you leave.
    Fuel:
If you are told your car is full, make sure it is! (Cars are sometimes used for local deliveries 4-5 miles or so and it will not change the fuel reading) If you have a discrepancy on it go back and inform the rental staff they will adjust your bill for you. Always return your car with a full tank of petrol, they will sting you rotten for the refulling charge! This works great if you take a car that is not full and return the car full, the price of pumps nationwide is taken from your bill and you more often than not make on the amount when it is credited to your account. Dont go for the prepaid fuel option neither, another rip off, you can hardly return the car with NO fuel in it (it wouldnt go lol!!) so why pay for the tank of fuel and leave it with some in it!

Avis used to turn their cars round pretty quick, so check that there is a pre rental inspection hanger in the car, if not ask for an upgrade for the inconvenience! If you are delayed, receive poor service, ask for an upgrade or discount on your rental, Tell them your last rental was not satisfactory, the car was dirty inside, there was finger prints on windows or something, all rental staff have ability to apply discounts, use what you can!!

Rental Stations have targets to meet, if you can rent from an off airport site do so, they are usually cheaper (no airport surcharges) or better still find a franchise they can apply their own rates!

Havent worked for Avis for a few years now, so unsure of other policies they have running and discounts going, but do check your company or your car insurance company as they may have an affiliated program running with a hire company.

Hope some of this helps and for information, 9/10 rental staff will not ask for id of an awd no.
