Going to NYC from Heathrow in October. On our return we are doing an internal flight from Heathrow. Am I correct in saying we cannot buy duty free goods on our return as we have an internal UK flight?

You can buy the duty free in NYC, but not when you get to LHR.

Thinking of a trip mid-October, will it still be warm in the evenings? No jacket required? Or better late September?

I am going first week of oct done some research on net and it says oct normally warm early on but as you get to mid-late oct it starts cooling off so a light jacket is required. Obviously this is the average so can be completely different but I will be taking a jacket just in case

for anyone in NYC on Jul 12th (or 13th possibly), do make the most of the 'Manhattenhenge' phenomena and get yourself onto 34th St for a spectacular sunset...

Surely though, I will have to come out of arrivals and then check in (for internal flight from Heathrow to Manchester) which means going through security and I wont be able to take liquids through?

Are you travelling on BA? If so, you will arrive and depart from T5 and won't need to leave the airside zone, so your liquids should be fine. Even if you were arriving on a different airline, then as long as they check your bag through you should still be ok. Just follow the purple 'Flight Connections' signs and you'll be bussed airside between the terminals.

Ask NY duty free to seal your bag to be on the safe side. We used to have problems with passengers losing their alcohol when our flight makes an intermediary stop in Bangkok. People who were heading on to the final destination had to deplane and come back through security, but if LHR duty free sealed their bags they could come back through with their booze.

We are flying Virgin from NYC to Heathrow. Then we are flying BMI to Manchester.
Thanks for the tip about asking them to seal the bag

We're back, had a great time after the stress of will we won't we get there with BA. Will be emailing them to say how impressed we were with the limited staff they had on our flight (8), they did an excellent job, plenty of food plus continuous drinks:T. We loved NY, fab weather, although couldn't stick it any hotter. Managed to do everything we wanted. We stayed at the Hilton, close to Central Park, great location but pricey so didn't eat there at all. Put $10 down for phoning home, made 3 calls each call less than 10 mins.(I stupidly thought it would work like the Virgin cards we used in Florida for the same amount of calls) Was rather shocked when checking out to be charged $70 for the calls:mad: We had breakfast every morning at the Green Cafe, great choice and resonable prices.

We used the hop on hop off buses which I would greatly advise as all the guides were very informative, plus each one told you something different so you weren't listening to the same script all the time.

What most surprised us was how easy it is to get round just walking, felt very comfortable and safe.

All in all a very successful trip, now to sort out the piccys:)
