    Hi everyone,

Been reading through this thread in prep for my trip in September. I'll be taking the Wife, my sis-in-law and parents-in-law. Cannot believe the hotel prices though. I went with a friend in November '07 and we paid £60/night (total, not each) at the HI Express on 28th Street. That same hotel is now $810/night!!!! It must be full of millionaires. It's not like the HIE was cheap at the time either. Plenty of other good hotels were available for similar rates, but we chose the HIE as they had twin rooms available. Anyways, i saw the issue of vacation rental apartments was touched on some time ago and wondered what the deal was with them? My colleague went last year and rented an apartment for a few days with his friends and had no trouble, but i saw in this thread comments about it being illegal.

    Hello,

My boyfriend and I are looking to go to New York in September (pref the beguinning but it doesn't have to be then). I was wondering whether any one could recommend somewhere that does good package deals. We would be going for 7 nights- would it be best to do the flight and hotel separate? I have found some very good deals on bookit.com but the reviews for bookit.com are half terrible half okay so i am not sure I would risk going with them- has any had a holiday through them?

Thank you very much for your time

7 nights in NYC will skin you alive in terms of cost - and is also imo too long.

3 Days is enough of you fill your days.

If you have 7 nights you would probably break even cost wise by having 4 nights in Vegas and 3 in NYC.

But yes - It is usually cheaper to book separately.

Definitely book separately and imo 7 days in NYC is perfect - we were there 13 due to the ash cloud and that was too long!

    I've never used bookit.com.

Try kayak.co.uk for flights and search around for hotels - Priceline, Travelzoo, Hotwire, etc.

  • We booked together and got a good deal through expedia. Don't think you would be covered with the ash cloud if you book separately?

We went for 10 days and that was not enough to see everything. 2 weeks would have been perfect for me.

Thank you very much for all your replies, i really appriciate it.

To the person quoted above- is expedia a good, trustworthy place to book with?

    Thank you:)

I'm/we're currently on our 4th package trip to new York using expedia and to date no issues have arisen and they always come out cheapest when pricing our hols up and add to that quidco and nectar points we wouldn't use anyone else. Right time for more shopping!
