After a bit of advise,we leave JFK at 6.25pm and they are recommend that we arrive at the airport 2 hours earlier. The question is what time would people recommend we leave NY,we are staying at the Roosavelt hotel, midtown and do not know how long the taxi ride will be.
Thanks Ganga0 -

About an hour on the Subway, E train from 5th Ave/53rd st station with 1 change at Sutphin Blvd to the Air Train at $7.75 each and no worries about traffic. We are of similar vintage and found it an ok journey to and from JFK with a largish case and a travel bag each.0

2 weeks...that seems to have come round quick. hope you enjoy it as much as we did. Just being there, seeing the main landmarks and even little things like steam coming out of the pavement, sorry sidewalk, the constant beeping of car horns, the hustle and bustle the general atmosphere, hard to describe but we loved every minute of our stay.0

Ganga, the taxi drivers are happy enough to take you from the airport to your hotel, but are much much less willing to do the trip the other way around.
As you have read this entire thread, you are no doubt already aware that you should get into the taxi BEFORE telling the driver where you want to go. Once you and your luggage are safely inside the taxi only then should you tell the driver your destination. Even if they ask you, say nothing until your luggage has been loaded and you are inside the taxi.
We left NY at 3pm for JFK. We ended up having to pay US$100 to convince the driver to take us to JFK. This was after trying 5 - 6 other taxis first, all of whom refused to take us. It took far longer to get to the airport than we anticipated. The traffic was horrendous, and the taxi driver was on the horn the whole way. He was definitely not a happy chappy, despite the blatant over charge!
It might be worth asking at your hotel in the morning if they could call you a taxi.Smiles are as perfect a gift as hugs...

Another option is to ask the doormen at the hotel to get you a black car. Make sure you get the cost which should be around $70-80. As you only have 2 weeks to go check out the 14 day forecast on Weather.com or the BBC weather.

Thanks for the tip.even at that price it is about the same fare as a cab with the tip allthough the driver of the black car will probably expect a tip.I know not very MSE but 70/80 dollars each way for peace of mind is worth it and as we might never go again why spoil the holiday for a few dollars, after all have been pricing up the cost of visiting the main places of interest and nothing is cheap :eek:exept the Statten Island Ferry for the SOL.:rotfl:0 -
After a bit of advise,we leave JFK at 6.25pm and they are recommend that we arrive at the airport 2 hours earlier.Passengers are encouraged to check-in a minimum of two hours prior to flight departure for domestic travel and three hours for international travel."Such an enormous country, you realize when you cross it" - Jack Kerouac0
