just about what you would tip in the uk and lets be honest have you thought about tipping in macdonalds or tescos not me either (although i give the barmaid a tip for 20 seconds work but never the checkout girl in Asda for 5 minutes "hard work") I gave the bloke on the door of our hotel $10 last time thinking he will remember us and sort us out if we needed owt. never saw nor needed him again . Went to bb kings and speaking to a girl on the sales desk was very interesting and informative (did i say pretty) gave her $20 for a badge costing $8 and told her to keep the change wasnt until daughter informed me i tipped her more than it cost.
Not sure as I would have tipped the bloke on the door.
Would you tip $1 a case or more to take them to the room?Loved our trip to the West Coast USA. Death Valley is the place to go!0 -
Hi there
My boyfriend and I are planning on going to New York for 7 nights, from October 30th to November 6th.
i was thinking about $100 per night for a room with a bathroom... but it seems unlikely...
any tips?

Are you booking a package? If not I suggest a room that has a cancellation policy.
I think if you want to pay $100 you will have to stay further out, but like debtfreein2007 says, the subway system is greatLoved our trip to the West Coast USA. Death Valley is the place to go!0 -

I am making my way through this thread... some great info but so much still to read!
However... the price of accommodation is scaring me - I know you get what you pay for and all that, but there must be some decent budget accommodation in NY?

Try the Pod Hotel - won't be $100 per night unless you get a shared bath, but the private ones are quite reasonable too - and the reviews are really good.0 -
Going to NY very shortly after having to rebook due to volcanic ash. Had to change hotel though as previous one was fully booked. We will be staying at the Ace Hotel. Has anyone had any experience of staying there and is there any cheap delis/places to eat nearby? Thanks in advance for any help.0

Its got good reviews, have you seen this?

I wouldn't recommend staying in Queens - its a long trek in and out of the city everyday and if you're only staying for a couple of days, it would be worth spending a little extra to stay in Manhattan. It's not a long trek at all, we stayed there last month & we were 2 tube stops from central park - 10 minutes inc walking time from hotel to station.
however I would pay the extra to stay in Manhattan purely because we thought Queens was a complete dump and very desolate, where we stayed anyway.
DON'T stay at the Verve (Clarion). The tripadvisor reviews are completely fake. This is where we stayed as it was rated No 1 hotel in Queens and had about 50 5* ratings, all from 1 contribution users.0 -
14 days to go, i'm so excited. was wondering as i'v looked on website for continental and couldn't see what the vegan meal option on board might be?0
