The Avalon hotel is midtown east, I've stayed in that area before a few times, and it's nice, quiet enough in the evening, not really much going on, but easy to get around to other places.

Hampton Inn on the other hand, well there are at least EIGHT Hampton Inn's in Manhattan alone, so you really need to be specific before anyone can make a comment

    Just a quick question,

We're flying from Manchester to Heathrow when we get to Heathrow will we have to check in again even though we are flying with the same company?

I've stayed at the King & Grove, when it was a different hotel. The location is good, you're a short walk from a Subway Station which is a good thing.

As for price, I'm always a fan of booking things separately, and also, with K&G there are MANY different room types too, which room are Expedia booking you in?

A standard Queen room is $740.34 for the room, which is working out at £462.71 prepaid. (based on an exchange rate of $1.60 to the £1. Mastercard are showing 1.643499 today, so if you have a fee free card, it could be cheaper)

Delta are showing flights at £526 each return.
That gives me a grand total of £1514.71.

Or as Queen Deluxe Room is $833.25 which is £520, giving a total of £1572.78.

So without knowing what room that expedia are giving you, it could be cheaper booking directly with the airline (which makes it much easier if there are problems), and the hotel itself.

Delta have Economy Comfort. It is a slightly better version of Economy, but slightly lower than Premium Economy on Virgin. Upgrade costs are probably around £40 per person, per leg (I'm guessing there, mine was £30, but my flight was a bit cheaper to NYC in Feb), and you get more legroom, better recline, and free spirits included.

Apologies for the very late response. Work has inconveniently got in the way of sorting out my trip!

The room at the K&G was a standard room.

I should have pointed out that we wanted to arrive in NY by mid-afternoon (so to feel like we were getting as much time there as possible) and leave later on the Tuesday (anytime after 19:00 essentially).

Waiting for my new card to arrive so I can get everything booked, which will hopefully happen in the next week. Didn't want to book things on a card which will have expired before we go.

So many options for NY I keep ending up going back to the drawing board. Only thing that can't change is the dates (11/04/14 - 15/04/14). We need to be near a subway station ideally (due to my mobility issues rather than laziness!) and wouldn't mind an upgraded flight for the way back as its overnight (desirable if the difference isn't too bad, but not essential).

A couple of other questions came up when I was having a read:

    - Is the New York pass worth it? Is there more than one option for this kind of thing? We want to do the standard tourist stuff, and definitely want to go to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, being a history geek!
    - In terms of Broadway tickets (looking at Jersey Boys atm, but again open to suggestions) are we better buying in advance or chancing it at one of the ticketing booths?
    - Knicks tickets. At home to the Bulls on the Sunday afternoon. I guess at the minute its looking like the play-offs could be a possibility (only because the East is horrific in terms of quality!) so will this drive prices up if we leave it closer to the time? Any viable and trustworthy alternatives to Ticketmaster (and there hiked up resale tickets)?

    Hi,

Flight and hotel now booked. (First time in NY)
Glasgow to Newark direct 9th - 16th March with United Airways.
Hotel is a new hotel - Hilton Garden Inn Central Park, it's on 54th across the street from Ameratania Hotel and what was Studio 54.

1 Show booked - Chicago - front mezz with travelzoo deal.
1 meal booked, again a Travelzoo offer at Stechinos (reasonably close to our hotel I think)

So we've 7 days to fill, any must dos ?

I want to try to go up the Statue of Liberty and visit Ellis Island, can anyone advise the best way to go about this ?

Also would it be worthwhile for us to buy any of the passes for attractions ? We are not really museum people though.

Lastly what is the best way to visit out of town shopping malls as I'm sure I'll need to spend a day there. :o

Thanks for any tips or advice.

    Jada

I've just booked our hotel for our honeymoon in New York at the end of November/ beginning of December well excited, we're staying at SpringHill Suites by Marriott New York Midtown Manhattan/Fifth Avenue for a week :)

Looked at flights with BA from Manchester it comes out at £1500 for both of us flying out as economy but returning as premium economy (so I can bring an extra case back)
