Hello
Yes I always book later (last 4 trips) - the last time was a week before. Have you priced up hotel and accommodation separately?
Edit - Any reason why you are not including a saturday night? as tends to be cheaper
I just assumed a Saturday night would be more expensive as it's a weekend?
Just looking at hotel, if I want to hold a room now and pay when I get there it'll be $1151/£697 or they have an advance rate and assuming that doesn't go up in March that's $1084/£657. Changed the dates to Sat-Wed instead and that was more expensive but only by about £10.
Did a flight comparison and if I fly the Saturday return Wed the flight is £495 but if I go on the Sunday prices seem to sharply increase to £792.
So Sat-Wed separately is £1205 & Sun-Thurs is £1489, considering that expedia deal is £1054 for Sun-Thurs I guess I really need to try and book that.
I'm just worried that when I come to book in March that prices will sky rocket and I won't be able to afford it. Well I'll definitely be going as I have a ticket for Lady Gaga at MSG on the 13th but I'd have to stay only a short time.0 -
Tripadvisor seems to indicate that Queen Superior rooms do not have windows and are internally facing and this seems to have been confirmed by management in a response to a review. Don't mind if we don't have a great view just would be nice to see outside, even if it is straight onto the street.
We are looking at between £4-500 for flights, so all in just over £1200 for the both of us.
The room I had in the Smyth had a window, but I did have a King Deluxe.
Yes, it may be internal facing, and you're close to a wall. Best thing to do is ask upon checkin for a street facing room. It's all I did when I stayed in hotels and didn't want an internal room.
You're getting a bargain, and I'm surprised that a US hotel came back agreeing to match a price in £, I'd want them to confirm the $ rate per night, the tax, and then the total amount payable, and work out the £ cost from that to make sure you're getting what you've asked for.0 -
Hiya looking for bit of advice.Im planning trip to New York around mid-Jan all very last minute but some good deals about and was wondering if anyone has ever stayed at either sleep inn or best western in long island? and how safe the area really is,i have read the reviews on TA and still unsure.
Long Island is useless for a New York City Stay, it is hours away from Manhattan.
Long Island City however may work fine, as it's only 1 stop away from Manhattan, and is a neighbourhood in Queens. Being specific about areas will really help, as there are probably many many Sleep Inns or Best Western's on Long Island, and I'm not even sure if there are any in Long Island City.
The hotels that I recommend for LIC are the Country Inn & Suites, Verve, Vetiver. They're the ones I know are near Subway Stations and are easy to get to Manhattan from .

Cheap flights require a Saturday night stay. If not, it's like you're travelling on Business, and therefore more expensive.
Hotel rooms are more expensive on a Saturday, but normally the difference still makes it cheaper to include a Saturday night stay in.0 -

With us always shopping around for deals rather than being loyal to one airline sometimes we lose our accumulated points which is what happened this year with AA.
I dislike AA as their legroom is awful. Also, I like Delta as the miles never expire. I think they're redemption is better, mainly because using miles to go transatlantically is poor at best, as most of the fares are mainly taxes and fees, but then I can use my miles for a decent internal flight, which is my plan for 2015.
Yeah, I have ideas, already for 2015... Seattle / San Francisco / NYC0 -

She asked me to send over the screengrab of the quote, which I did. It clearly says that taxes and fees are included in that quote. They haven't specifically said they will match it in £'s, so should they come back and say they'll match it in dollars I'll check to make sure we are paying the same.
Have also asked what extra we would need to pay for upgrades etc. As I understand it the week we are going is one of the hardest weeks to sell, so maybe that's why we are getting a good deal. I almost feel like it's too good and a spanner is going to get thrown in the works.0 -

I put my iphone into 'airplane mode' to check google maps offline and I'm now covered for everywhere we want to go. I can continue saving attractions/restaurants etc on google maps on my desktop which immediately saves on iphone app.
Apps I'll be using when in NYC will be:
Google Maps
Embark NYC (for subways)
Trip advisor NYC offline (new app)
That's a great tip cheers!
How can you view saved places on google maps for iphone?0 -
Thanks M4RKM, I was doing it the wrong way, i was caching my maps before i saved my places! doh0

Other option is the CityMaps2Go app which you download maps of entire cities before heading on holiday. Most providers now offer decent data bundles for use overseas if you buy in advance too.Legal team on standby0
