Sorry peeps, i am sure this has been asked 100 times before but couldn't find it....

Whats the deal with the attraction passes? What website gets you discount, and is it really worth it?

The main attractions I want to do is TOTR, and the boat around statue of liberty (or maybe the statue cruise itself)

We used this when we did our attractions trip to NYC

You have to look at them very closely and decide if they offer enough places to make them cost effective. Be careful you don't fall into the trap many do which is to go to places just for the sake of it to justify the pass.

We did the three day ones and made a serious effort to use as much as we could that was still relevant for us.

The biggest benefit is like I said this helped us do the attraction trip we planned without too much effort.

    I'm counting down . . . . 8 weeks on Saturday until I go to New York!!

I'm going with my mum and we'll be there for 8 days so I'd like to plan a chill out afternoon one day. I'd like to visit a day spa and sit and chill in sauna/steam room / pool and maybe even have a massage.

I don't want to spend a fortune - I've seen Mandarin Oriental advertise a massage for $650 which is way over my budget!!

Try these offers or check on Groupon (must admit I would generally trust Travelzoo more)

Thanksgiving menus are starting to come up on opentable for anyone heading over at the end of next month :)

Guys, any recommendations on which restaurant to visit for a traditional Thanksgiving meal, so many choices on Open table, we are staying on 51st Lexington Avenue.

We got a shared bus with super shuttle was $17 each no messing about carrying cases through subway and stations good views of Manhattan when coming in also.

Potentially the worst way into NYC possible. So many bad reviews, and potentially taking hours. YOu were lucky if you had a smooth trip both ways.

Mainly they're a waste of money, as they get you to run to place to place to try and feel like you're getting your moneys worth. Loads of attractions, but you then miss out on New York. You're there to see the city, not visit tourist attractions.

There is the GO SELECT pass which you choose your attractions, but still can't do the Statue Cruises one...
  • hey everyone,

I got an email today about a reminder of the "OCTOBER15" promocode that is ending tonight at midnight for an extra 15% off any hotel on ebookers.com-thought I would share! Havent checked if you could use this with quidco-but worth looking into.

Also wanted to ask-how to go about buying Groupons for NYC as billing info is required...any thoughts?

    Thanks!

Just seen this about withdrawing cash abroad using a Halifax credit card. Interesting reading. (apologies if this has been brought up before):

Oh i've just seen Ellis Island is still closed

I also need to get a visit to Brooklyn in there as well

You could always go see the Brooklyn Nets instead of the Knicks and spend your day in Brooklyn. I think tickets may be cheaper too.

I've often withdrawn cash abroad on my Clarity and it has never affected my credit limit.
I use the card regularly for purchases every month though (always pay off in full).
I wonder if 'the red flag is raised' if the card is only ever used for cash withdrawals on or two statement periods a year?

I can only comment on our experience, we only waited for 15 mins at Newark and bus turned up on time for return to JFK it was a 05.00 pick up though. Then we booked it for transfer in san Francisco again no problems.
