  • Chrispy I was there for thanksgiving last year and there's a surprising amount of places open for dinner. If you wait until a bit closer to the time then restaurants will start posting their menus online. I also emailed a few places last year to get their menu as I am vegetarian. I'll be there again this year so will start looking again soon :)

Many thanks, any tips on seeing The Macy's parade, shopping on Black Friday etc?
  • Unfortunately didn't get to see the parade as we arrived as it finished! The same again this year as it was a choice between the parade and seeing the christmas lights turn on, and we choose the lights. For Black Friday shopping, what types of things are you wanting to buy?

Umm, in 2 minds now, if I book I have to pay in advance. Mark do you have any personal fav's, open minded on the type of food just want an all round USA ThanksGiving experience.

No personal recommendations, but I would try looking at Yelp for reviews to come up with some options. Reviewers on there tend to be more locals than tourists and you get a better overall idea of the quality of a restaurant than on TA (which I love for hotel reviews but have found quite hit and miss on the food side of things). You can also search for say "thanksgiving dinner" in New York (or more specifically Manhattan, Brooklyn etc) and filter by price, neighbourhood etc which is useful for narrowing down a list.

Chowhound is also great for finding restaurant recommendations and general foodie stuff. It's a forum rather than reviews but if you do a search I'm pretty sure the thanksgiving question will have been asked at some point and the locals on there really know their stuff.
  • I found opentable.com really good for finding menus for thanksgiving dinner.
  • Finally bought the trip for my OH as a surprise :) Wont tell her till the airport! Went for a deal on the BA website - I think there are some deals to be had!

Hello - Fab news, such lovely partners on the forum booking surprises! When are you going? What hotel are you staying at?
  • 23-27th Nov, Intercontinental Barclay! Looks nice and I am happy with the price I paid.

I have been looking into attraction passes, What would you guys suggest? As I know you can get many attractions on the same pass and save some money.

    Thanks.

Fantastic. I always find you can get some good bargains on Ba. Hope you have good flight times too.

I have used passes on any of my trips, only because I only do a few things to I have something to see for the next trip.

I'm sure others on here will be able to advise.

Have you sorted any guide books? If you want to get your OH a NYC keepsake - I recommend one of these (Moleskine Diary) - I have recommended on here before - I love them comes with me on every trip.
