You say "we've" depends how many are in that "we've" for example a cab is gonna be a lot cheaper if there are four of you (per person cost)
air train/subway is gonna be cheapest, and could be quickest but remember a lot of subway stations dont have lifts/escalators so you may struggle with your bags
cab/carmel cars is best as its door to door and you get a view on the drive in but obviously its a lot more expensive.
Hey,
Thanks for your reply.
We is two of us.
I presumed the subways would have escalators, interesting knowing many don't, certainly would make life interesting with suitcases.0 -

Do you need a credit card for the hotel to hold on to? I only have a debit card.
I don't have a credit card so our hotel just took a $20 deposit and we got that back at the end of the stay~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Flights you are looking at probably £500-£600 each + as you will be travelling in the summer holidays and any flights during this period is going to be expensive'ishMissAA1970 wrote: »so far there is public transport very near the hotel
Im a tad confused by this statement as it makes it sound like you have a hotel in mindMissAA1970 wrote: »BTW I am on a low budget of £120 but can stretch to £170 a night for hotel
So there are 5 of you and you may need two rooms for this kinda money its really not going in to happen in NY.MissAA1970 wrote: »An apartment with two doubles and a sofa would suit us but I am finding it difficult to get a suite like that in searches .
Apartment rentals are illegal and can be dangerous, in as much as you may turn up and find you have on appartment to check in to.MissAA1970 wrote: »I am hoping to go to some of the show recordings with the older children (ages 19 &16) If anyone has anymore ideas particularly for the 12 and 15 children that would be great .
So what are you going to do with the younger two whilst you are at these show recordings?Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -
Thanks for this info - my budget is around £100 a night but up to £900 for the week if the right hotel or location pops up. I can get ther New Yorker hotel for around £900 with LowCostUSA which seems a decent deal ! So we'll see....
Well, $150 a night isn't much, take off taxes, and you're wanting a room for $130 a night, over St Patricks Weekend, will be a tall order.
£900 for 7 nights is obviously more than what you're saying your budget is. The New Yorker is a very big, brash, tourist hotel, in a reasonable, but not exciting location of Midtown Manhattan.
Personally, I think you can do better, especially if you're increasing your budget. I think $200 a night before taxes (£148 per night inc taxes) will get you something much better.
It may be worth only staying 5 nights (say fly Thurs - Tuesday), and then that gives you a better hotel budget.

You must have pre-paid your hotel room, and that was for "incidentals". I don't know of any hotel that is selling hotel rooms for over $200 a night, that would take only $20, at a risk of you walking out and not actually paying.
If you have not prepaid, this simply wouldn't happen.0 -
Do you need to book the Airporter bus from JFK to Grand Central, or can you just turn up and get on it?0

Anyone done any day trips out of NYC, or stayed overnight? Was thinking about a day trip to Boston or Washington, D.C. Just wondering whether it's a good idea or what other places people have went to?0

It will be quicker and easier to use public transport, and probably cheaper. The Airporter bus used to be good, but it's been taken over by another company. It could wait around a good while before it sets off.
Where exactly are you going?

I've once left NYC in the early morning, (6am) got a flight down to DC, and then left DC at around 4pm...
Did a self guided walking tour around all the usual tourist sites, had lunch, and then back to the airport.
DC needs more than that though, but it is doable, if all you want is to say, you've been there, seen it, and put it on a list to-do again..
