    Hello all,

I am booking my hotel in the next couple of days, I will give as much info as I can to get advice from people.

We are flying to JFK 1st Nov until 8th so need 7 nights in a hotel. We do not want a hostel or shared bathroom. 1st time in NYC or USA for that matter!

I am easy on area as long as good transport links, we don't mind walking 5-10 mins to jump on the subway etc as will be using this type of transport the majority of the time.

Budget is £1200 but anything we spend lower than that means that it can go towards our spending money to do more things whilst there. I am aware that not a lot of time will be spent in our hotel.

I have considered staying in Manhattan, LIC and Brooklyn so pretty open on those areas although we would like to be able to nip out for breakfast before setting off for the day. Ok so here goes....

    LIC
If we stay in LIC we would ideally like a view to make up for not being Manhattan, I have seen that Z hotel, Holiday Inn etc all offer this option. The only concern I have with the area is the time to get to subway? although a few of the hotels I have seen offer a shuttle service.

Holiday Inn LIC £958 free canx
Comfort Inn LIC £804 free canx
Sleep In LIC £663 free canx
    Z hotel LIC £1290
Country Inn & Suites £986 free canx

    BROOKLYN
I've been recommended to stay in Brooklyn time and time again, I'm open to this as long as its relatively easy to get into Manhattan as the majority of what we are seeing is there.

    Holiday Inn Brooklyn £1036
Best Western Plus Prospect Park £722 free canx

    MANHATTAN
Would choose to stay here if money no object but a 20 min ride into doesn't bother me. Can't find much in our price range which isn't surprising but here we are:

    Wyndham Garden China Town £1253
    Tribeca Blue £1143 free canx
Comfort inn Manhatten Bridge £1119 free canx
    DAys Hotel Broadway £1135
Cosmopolitan Hotel Tribeca £1151 (also gives option of standard or loft room?)

Any ones help on these or at least cutting the options down will help or any other suggestions would be great.

I was also comparing what cash back deals / points I could get etc

Thanks in advance for you help..... just about to start going through the whole post for ideas for our itinerary now!! cheers

I've seen the tickets online for Sun & Stars at the Rockefeller which sounds good so may purchase them before we go

I thought the 9/11 memorial would be an emotional thing but something you need to see I suppose

You can purchase the sun and stars tickets on the day - so you can play it by ear weather wise.

I'd also suggest checking when you buy that the top viewing platform is open - when we went the previous day I overheard the sales assistant at the next desk telling the people he was serving that it was closed for the evening for maintenance - the person selling me tickets didn't think to tell me.

So we came back early the next morning and then went again that evening.

If its your first time and the majority of your time will be spent in Manhattan then that's where i'd suggest staying. 10 minutes walk to the subway then 20 minutes+ on the subway plus waiting for the subway etc x 2 per day x 7 days will be a good 7 hours at least wasted.

BA have a direct flight and hotel deal on at the moment. 4 nights in the DoubleTree Hilton - Financial District for £580 a person for hotel&flights late November. Seems like an incredible deal to me! What are everyone others thoughts?

Anyone have any thoughts on this hotel/ offer?

Would it matter if I were to return home on Thanksgiving day 28th Nov?

Ok thanks, do you not have to queue for ages to get the tickets though? I was thinking of buying things like tickets for the Rock and for ESB now to avoid queuing for tickets when we're there. From experience how long does it take to get tickets?

I bought some Mets tickets last night for a game against the SF Giants so that should be a good experience :) I'll try n list everything we're doing tomorrow

I'm due to travel to Vegas next week then to New York on the 15th, what are everyone's thoughts safety-wise on being in USA / NYC just around the time Obama is looking likely to give the go ahead to invade Syria??

  • Hi all, looking to go to new york in Nov/Dec 2014 for 3 nights. Is there any difference in price between mid week stays or weekend stays? anything saved here will obviously go towards shopping!
  • Hotel grand union - 934 standard room
The Milford Times Square - 1102 standard room
    Hudson - 1183 standard room
Hotel Pennsylvania - 1153 superior double room
Best western Times Square - 1029 standard room
Ramada eastside - 1154 queen room , free breakfast
Herald square - 1167 queen room
TriBeCa Blu - 967 deluxe room

Still looking a hotel and have compiled this list. Going away end of nov/start of dec and they're the prices I'm looking at. Anyone any experiences with these and would recommend/advise against? Or any others that I should be looking at?

Some friends of mine stayed at the Hotel Pennsylvania a few weeks ago and thought it was pretty awful. Not sure about any of the others.

I stayed in the Holiday Inn Express Herald Square at the beginning of August. The hotel was very nice (new in February and I might be swayed by the fact that I payed under $100 inc tax a night!) but the location (36th & 6th) was very blah - good for the subway but not much going on in the immediate area. It's not on your list but I think a couple of the places you're looking at are nearby so something to bear in mind. Saying that, I'd rather be there than Times Square any day!
