I am trying to confirm the best way of minimising ATM fees in New York when using a Metro Bank debit card.

There is the FreeATM at Barclays Center if you happen to be in the area and there are the McDonald’s ATMs which only charge a fee of $0.99. However, I have heard conflicting reports about whether a fee is charged when using ATMs at TD Bank and Chase. Do any Metro Bank customers have any recent first-hand experience of using either of these banks’ ATMs and can confirm either way?

    Hi,

I've been a MetroBank customer since 2011, and have used it abroad quite a few times.

TD Bank is free to withdraw cash from, and there is one in Park Slope within walking distance to the Barclays Center (about 15 mins)
Sovereign Bank is free to withdraw cash from

Most others charge $3, apart from small ATMS not affiliated with banks, and they normally charge $0.99¢

    Hope that helps

As games regularly sell out, buying in advance is always recommended. Ticketmaster, StubHub or Yankees Ticket Exchange are the three options I would consider. With StubHub look for tickets that are delivered via e-mail.

Flying tomorrow to JFK on AA, flight arrival is 9.55pm, there's an LIRR train from Jamaica to Penn at 11.42pm, if the flight is on time, do you think we'll make the 11.42?

The flight arrived early at about 9.15pm, we were through immigration about 9.50pm, quickest ever for me, and were in the hotel about 11.30pm so all went to plan very well.

Why not just pay for everything on card. We (2 of us) did Boston, NYC and DC in 10 days, and only had about $300 in cash. Everything went on the CC. Even the cabs accept cc. We just had small bills for things under $10.

Saves carrying around a huge amount of money.
Thanks for the reply and info. The card has arrived and we shall use this to withdraw money whilst there. plus take some dollars to start off, as you say saves carrying lots of cash around. I didn't have credit cards and never have so I don't feel comfortable paying for everything on them and to be fair would not dream of paying for a small fare such as a Taxi cab on one. No offence thats just me I am so used to paying for things in cash I am a self emplored Plasterer and generally always have cash on me as most customers pay me that way. (unfortunatly not at the moment as work is VERY quiet :-( Thanks again for your reply.

Hi all back again (After trauling the pages some more)
Quick question regarding taxi transferes. Is it just as well to get a taxi outside the terminal or pre order one via the Carmel site that seems to get mentioned on here. If it is reccomended to order the Carmel taxi do they just wait for you off the flight number given as I would not know how long it would take to get through terminals. I am assuming there price quted would include all tolls? We would still tip of course as this is a requirement (good manners) . On that note what is considered a reasnobale tip?
Ps: We are staying at the Salisbury Hotel flying to JFK.

Firstly, prices you see are before toll and tip. from JFK to Midtown, your toll will be around $5, plus a 20% tip on the base fare.

Carmel is slightly cheaper than a taxi, however, there is some waiting time. They'll know you're arriving, but on their normal service, they don't wait for you, that's an extra charge. What you do, is call them, once you've got your bag, and cleared customs, and then they'll turn up normally in around 10-15 mins at the most.

It may be quicker than waiting in the queue for a taxi, but it's a few dollars cheaper.

Problem with that, is that you're spending money to get your money. Cash Withdrawals on a credit card will attract interest from the moment you withdraw it, whereas, spending on it, you can clear it when you get the statement and not pay interest.

A lot of the cash machines I saw also charged you money to get out cash (just in general, not even just foreign cards- to everyone!)
