hes seen this on for 18 dollars http://www.nyairportservice.com/ and the bowery house hotel for 3 nights in august 12- 15

I really don't get your logic. Why pay MORE for something that will give your Son less! It is more expensive than public transport and will take longer. They're not recommended ever, and there are plenty of complaints... this is just a sample of one
WARNING - website misleads you into thinking you'll be riding on a spacious, comfortable bus. Nope; they use cramped vans and they pack you in as tightly as possible.

It took forever to get picked up at the airport, I had to wait for 40 minutes for my van.

On the return trip (yes, I unfortunately pre-paid for a round trip ticket online before my trip), once we were all uncomfortably packed into the van and a few blocks into our departure from Grand Central Station, the driver suddenly pulled over and announced, "Ladies and Gentlemen, I'm starving. I'm stopping to get a sandwich at Subway".

And that's exactly what he did. Hopped out of a van filled with people needing to get to the airport in a timely manner to go buy a sandwich in a crowded Manhattan subway restaurant.

Anyway, onto the place your Son wants to stay. According to the New York City buildings website clearly states a partial vacate order on the premises, for ILLEGAL HOTEL ROOMS IN RESIDENTIAL BUILDINGS
Take a look yourself - Here

There was a complaint on the 21st May for failure to comply with the vacate order. That's here.

Do you want your Son evicted on the streets of NYC? Do you want your son breaking the law?

Find somewhere legal, what's happened with the Hostelling International that he was going to before?

Yes plenty. But I've not got enough information to make recommendations.

I need exact dates and a nightly budget. I'll then be able to help.

What's the issue with public transport?
What's gone will never come back. But it exists when you think of it ...

just that he has a case and a couple of bags, he lands at about 8 at night and we wasn't sure if it ran easy at the time he gets out of the airport, he thought it would be easier just to get in a car straight there

    Mortgage-free Glee!
I think he (you) should up your budget. Scraping the bottom of a big barrel isnt going to work . Youve been looking hard and know NYC isnt cheap. Im from Merseyside and would find it difficult but not impossible to find a bed for about £30 a night here. Is he working or going to summer camp ? often they have recomendations and discounts for their groups . Is there a forum with other people where other europeans are doing the same dates.
 hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world

How many bags? Can't see why it would be an issue at that time but saying that I've only done it in the afternoon.

I'm assuming your son doesn't mind where he stays? I found some very cheap but very run down looking places in your budget, for example the Sun Bright Hotel

Does he need accommodation for 4 nights?

Forget it. You're not going to get a room in NYC for that kind of money, for something legal. If there isn't room at Hostelling international then you really have no chance.

15% of the cost of a room is tax. Up your budget or fly home straight away. Some hotels also need him to be 21 to check in, others don't.

Country Inn and Suites in Long Island City is a great hotel and before tax for those dates it is coming up at $155 per night, there may be other hotels that are in the same area that are around the same price. I'm not doing much more research as the budget is just unrealistic.

Manhattan, forget it with that kind of budget.

As for a shuttle, STOP SAYING SHUTTLES. they're unreliable. at 8pm, that is nowhere near late at night, the hipsters are only just getting out of bed, and he'll be at the hostel in just over an hour. Suitcase and a bag or two? if he can't manage that, how is he going to manage going to camp, maybe he needs to pack lighter? I really do wonder why he isn't researching this more, and leaving it all to him mum too actually! :/

Sun Bright Hotel has stop work orders on the hotel and 2 right at this moment, and the certificate of occupancy are for cubicles, not hotel rooms.
