Near Times Square (and hotels that call themselves "Times Square") cover quite a wide area, so what I really need to be able to direct you correctly is your hotel you're staying in. Otherwise I could direct you to Times Square, and you've then got 1 mile walk or more to get to your hotel, (honestly, that's how the description Times Square is used these days), whereas if you said what hotel, it makes life much easier for both of us.
Saying that, you only have to be that specific if you want to save some money and use public transportation.
If you want, you can get a taxi at $52 plus toll and tip (circa $70 total), or a car service, but then there is a bit more waiting around.

At no. 339 you're going to be in between 8th and 9th avenues. We preferred the choice of places to eat on 9th rather than those in Times Square. We really like Five Napkin Burger on 9th & 45th
Have a great time0 -

I went this time with a friend who had never been before and out of the 7 days we were there only one was bright enough to see the top of the esb clearly. This indicates to me if you've prebooked/paid to do things and the weather doesn't play ball its money wasted.
We pre bought tickets on the ESB website and it did not specify a day it had to be used on.0 -

The Milford Plaza doesn't tend to get great reviews, but then it is one of the cheaper hotels in that part of the city. If you have a idea for a budget provide dates when you'll be over I'm sure people can make some recommendations and you can decide what works best for you.0 -

thanks for this
looking on trip advisor it says that it has just had a 120 million dollar renovation!
, we are looking to stay from 28th-31st october on times square, preferably around the 600 mark??
thanks again0 -
You'd probably struggle to fine something cheaper than the Milford if you are intent on staying in the Times Square area. If the Milford has been renovated recently that's more than you'll be able to say about some of the other cheaper hotels in that area. Many regular travellers would recommend staying in other parts of the city, but while I prefer other parts of town I do concede that it's central and a good base for exploring the city. Just note that for eating and drinking it's not the best area to do that in.
I do notice it appears to be cheaper on the Milfords own website than it is on Expedia though. I tend to find often you get better prices going direct than through the likes of Expedia who add their own mark-up.0 -
A reasonable alternative to Milford Plaza is The Sanctuary ( formerly Portland Square ).0

I would definately do the TOTR, just for the reason that you get a picture of the ESB! Also, get dessert at Max Brenner's Chocolate by the Bald Man restaurant in Union Square. You will NOT be dissapointed!0
