haven't been to NYC yet (fly on 20 April!) but I've had two things recommended to me that i thought I'd share...
-I've just bought a guide book called 'the little black book of New York' which is broken down into the neighbourhoods and gives you the things to see/where to eat/where to shop/where to stay/things for kids to do in each one with a little fold out map and a subway map at the back of the book.
Really love this guide book, the way its split up into neighbourhoods is so helpful, got some really great suggestions for stuff in the area we're staying in.:heart2:0 -
My daughter and I are off to New York for 5 days next week. Can anyone suggest the best way to get from JFK airport to hotel near Times Square. We arrive about 2pm. Thanks.0

Haven't done such a cruise ourselves, but I have seen them on discounted offer through Groupon.com, as well as other NY attractions / restaurants etc. Worth signing up for.0 -

Near Times Square (and hotels that call themselves "Times Square") cover quite a wide area, so what I really need to be able to direct you correctly is your hotel you're staying in. Otherwise I could direct you to Times Square, and you've then got 1 mile walk or more to get to your hotel, (honestly, that's how the description Times Square is used these days), whereas if you said what hotel, it makes life much easier for both of us.
Saying that, you only have to be that specific if you want to save some money and use public transportation.
If you want, you can get a taxi at $52 plus toll and tip (circa $70 total), or a car service, but then there is a bit more waiting around.

Can you buy open tickets in advance to things like TOTR, we are off in August and was looking to spread the cost a bit by buying tickets etc before hand - but dont want to be tied down to specific days?
Edit: Just looked for myself and yes you can.0 -
Just returned from Nyc this morning, one thing i've found on my trips is not to plan too much!
I went this time with a friend who had never been before and out of the 7 days we were there only one was bright enough to see the top of the esb clearly. This indicates to me if you've prebooked/paid to do things and the weather doesn't play ball its money wasted.0 -
A heads up for anyone interested, Expedia have a good deal on the new Holiday Inn on Delancey St in the Lower East Side. I just paid £838 for a week for a king room but I think the deal is for today only.
Not sure what dates are covered by these rates but I booked for May with the last few days falling during Whit holiday. The hotel is due to open in April.
Can highly recommend this part of Manhattan, better restaurants and bars and nicer people than Midtown.0 -
On this visit we went a walk along the High line park in the Meatpacking district followed by lunch in The Standard Grill @Standard Hotel! Great views and fab lunch!Quit Smoking 12 years 2 months.0

I remember walking through China Town, and there was a little Chinese man give me a little back rub for free and tempted me with a $10 for 10 minute deal in which is massaged my so good I woke up the next day aching aha!
They often have deals for massages on Travelzoo NYC. They have a few places very near Union Square.0
