goneshopping wrote: »Hi everyone, looking for a bit of advice. I know Nov / Dec is an expensive time to visit NYC but this is when i'm planning on going with my Mum for 7 nights.
We are flexible when we go so anytime from Thanksgiving but I need to be back in the UK for 21st December.
I've seen Le Park Meridian Hotel for £1198 each (through Kuoni) has anyone else ever stayed here? Also Hotel on Rivington for £1250ish only thing that concerns me is the location??
Can anyone give me any advice?
Thanks
Why is the location of the Hotel on Rivington a concern?
It's an awesome location for restaurants, nightlife, shopping, and near numerous subway lines for getting around, walking distance into Greenwich Village, and a great hotel. Luxury Tempur Mattress beds, and amazing views over Lower Manhattan.0 -

Hi Mark, "concern" was probably the wrong thing say!! I've only every stayed up near Times Square before so don't really know the area where Rivington is very well.
Do you think £1250 is a good price for 7 nights? Flying from Manchester?
Thanks0 -

So time to spread your wings. If you feel you need to visit Times Square it is only 20 minutes away by subway. There is so much to see and do in that area, it really is good.
Right, is it a good price. I don't work out my prices based on a per person cost like you've got there. I always book separately...
£1250 per person is £2500 total, (I'm assuming 1 room), £500 each for flights, leaves £1500 for the room, per night that's £214 per night, or $279 per night (before taxes) in a rough way.
Hmm, you're going an expensive time of year, so that's not a bad deal IMO....

Just to make people aware, although it's not a huge amount, they now charge a $1 surcharge for any new MTA passes as of 1st March.0

To expand on this, once you have a card, you can always get a replacement for free, when it is near expiration.
I got a card a few weeks ago, and it's valid until May 2014.
Also, now MetroCards can hold an unlimited ride and pay per ride value too, so you can have a single card for the AirTrain and the Subway.

Arrive in NYC tomorrow late afternoon. Dinner booked in Colicchios in mEAT PACKING District for tomorrow night! Might try High Line on Friday morning as somehow have missed that in all our previous trips! Anyone know much about meatpacking district in terms of must sees after we do the High line??

This is the rough time I want to go.....
£400 Delta Direct Flights each
£1250 5 nights Holiday Inn Express Times Sq (£250/night)
Kuoni - £900pp inc flights BA (£430 alone) + the New Yorker Ramada
Is cheapest I can find.
The real question is when is the NON-expensive time of year? From reading on here, I thought there was never an off-peak season at NYC?Wins Pre-2011 : Arctic Monkeys Tickets

Day 2 and 3, bryant park and grand central are a couple of blocks apart so they can be merged, by all accounts theres nothing to really see in bryant park, apart from the NY public library, but its a nice place for a sit down and they have free wi-fi too.
I usually suggest creating yourself a google map and placing pins in the places you want to go that way you will see how close certain things are so you can maximise your time in NY.
Thanks, I have created a google map and thought I'd kept it all quite close, I'll take another look.0 -
I'm heading to new York 14-18oct and all hotel rates seem to be £800-£1200 (double 3-4*) plus 14.97% tax.
Does this seem right? am I looking too early to book.. do prices fluctuate massively. [Fleapits can be had for £450 plus Tax.]
The hotels seem to be far cheaper in apr/may/june july when I've entered random dates.
my mate gave me a hotel name where he stopped xmas to new year and said it was very reasonable. that's 600 dollars a night in October.. (280 dollars in may)
any advise appreciated..0 -
October is super pricey, because the weather is nice and everyone wants to go. I budget $200 for a hotel in February (when it is cheap), and for my October trip this year, that goes up to $350 a night.
Precise dates help, and actually telling us what hotel your mate suggested helps too.
