We watched the Grand Slam game against France last March 17th in 'The Parlour' [Upper West Side, 250 West 86th at Broadway]
Probably not too far on the subway?
Kicked off at the same time too so we had breakfast etc there [and didnt leave until 2am the following morning!]
Love that pub so much, will be there in a week0 -
I'd be interested in this if you do have suggestions, particularly Queens as I quite fancy heading over there to check out some of the more interesting ethnic food places at some point. Maybe Brooklyn too, especially any places worth exploring that might not be mentioned in the typical guidebook "cross the Brooklyn Bridge then head here" lists.
Queens Museum of Art is a good visit, you have the panorama there, and also the Unisphere from the World Fair is just behind the museum in the park too.
Recently, I've just done the American Museum of Moving Image, this again is a great place to visit, and in Astoria, which does have great bars and food nearby.
Brooklyn Museum is cool, and there is also the Botanical Gardens, depending on the time of year you visit, you can visit Prospect Park, and Grand Army Plaza, and walk down the slope to Park Slope, where there is loads of great food and drink, and along to the new Barclays Center.
What kinda stuff do you like? are you more foodies, than culture creatures? That kind of thing helps me suggest better places to go..

Hi all, we're going to NYC on the 14th and will have 5 days, here is a rough itinerary, they're not in any order (apart from St Patricks which I believe is moved to the Saturday!)
Day 1
Brooklyn Bridge
Staten Island Ferry
Statue of Liberty (not going up it)
Ellis Island
China Town
Little Italy
Day 2
Empire State Building
Grand Central
Greenwich/Meat packing area
Soho
Union Square
Day 3
Central Park
Rockefeller Centre
Top of the Rock (night)
Day 4
Bryant Park
Chelsea
World Trade Centre memorial
Day 5
Shopping
St Patricks Day parade
We're staying at Times Square so will fit the theatre district in at some point and we'd like to head to Brooklyn but that will probably be the evening. Is there anything else that I've left out?
Would like to go and see the hockey at Madison Square Gardens but tickets are $400 ish! I did look ages ago but they were in some kind of deadlock at the time!
If there is time we might like to see Yankee stadium as well.0 -

Thanks for the heads up. Will we still be able to pass by the Statue of Liberty by boat?
Do my days look ok? Not too much in them?0 -

Thanks for the suggestions. There's just me going (first ever solo holiday, kind of nervous!)...I would definitely say I'm a bit of a foodie, museums and galleries I like in small doses but I'd rather be outside and wandering around if I'm honest.
I remember reading about the panorama somewhere now you've said it - that looks pretty cool. Had never heard of the Unisphere but that and the park generally look worth a visit. I can't really work out from their website what the Museum of the Moving Image is about - well, film related obviously but what's actually there? It does sound like something I could be interested in and Astoria is on my list of places for some good food so it'd be good to know more about it.
I'll be there in August so would like to head to Prospect Park and maybe the botanical gardens if I have time and I'm not dying from heat exhaustion! Any particular recommendations for good food and drinks around that area of Brooklyn?0 -

Day 2 and 3, bryant park and grand central are a couple of blocks apart so they can be merged, by all accounts theres nothing to really see in bryant park, apart from the NY public library, but its a nice place for a sit down and they have free wi-fi too.
I usually suggest creating yourself a google map and placing pins in the places you want to go that way you will see how close certain things are so you can maximise your time in NY.Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -

the staten island ferry, which is free, passes by but from a distance, there are plenty of tour companies that run boat trips closer to the SOL thoughLive each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -
Hi everyone, looking for a bit of advice. I know Nov / Dec is an expensive time to visit NYC but this is when i'm planning on going with my Mum for 7 nights.
We are flexible when we go so anytime from Thanksgiving but I need to be back in the UK for 21st December.
I've seen Le Park Meridian Hotel for £1198 each (through Kuoni) has anyone else ever stayed here? Also Hotel on Rivington for £1250ish only thing that concerns me is the location??
Can anyone give me any advice?
Thanks0
