Earlier in the thread someone mentioned Virgils BBQ near Times Square - very touristy and over priced.
Try some of the places on the list above - Dinosaur BBQ is the real deal !!
Take the 1 train to 125th street - then walk to 12th ave.
125th so from times sq you need to get a subway 80 odd blocks?
A couple of quick points "its touristy" well correct me if I'm wrong but we/they are tourists and I've eaten there half a dozen times and taken other people there and the food has always been decent in quality and reasonable in price its also worth checking out dallas bbq just off times square too, again "touristy" but good food and amazing cocktails
Just noticed blue smoke was on that list and mrs pb is a steak lover and claims its one of the best steaks shes ever had, and its in midtown so you dont have to sit on a subway for an hours round tripLive each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -
Next week other half and I are going to NYC for our 9th & 11th respective trip. We've done all the major sights, shopped in New Jersey, been to a show on Broadway, done the film and tv tour, done the gangsters of NYC tour, had breakfast at Ellens stardust diner, Katz deli, the village, Ellis Island, chelsea bars, stayed in Chelsea hotel, Brooklyn bridge.
I am looking through guide books and online and whilst we don't like to cram our breaks so full we come back tired but at least we like to do a few new NYC things. I can't think of any beyond restaurants we haven't tried............
Anyone got any new ideas??

Maybe you have done this, or wouldn't be interested in doing it, its just a suggestion....
We have been to NYC 4 times now, and we keep saying we must do this, but haven't got round to it, but what about a church service in harlem?
They are advertised in some of the guide books and I have seen vouchers for trips up to them.
Ps... We are not overly religious, it was just for something different.
Also have you even gone round the "meat packing district", its very dif to other parts of manhatten, (we went for a meal in this area on the day we got married!)0 -

But you just told her to go to Katz Diner which is a tourist joint....? (Just saying)
Athough, it just goes to show how it really is difficult to recommend stuff for others to try as we hated Katz Diner. The owner/manager was offhand/rude, took ages to get a table and longer to get the food which, when it finally arrived, was pretty disappointing.0 -

Have to agree with your post Phat. It's the one thing on this forum which irritates me - the "tourist snobbery" which some posters are guilty of. As you say we are all tourists however much some do not like to admit to it;)0 -

Oddly i was gonna say pretty much the same thing about it not get much more touristy than katz.
We've been to katz twice 1st time was under whelming and, if you queue for the food yourself, mega confusing. 2nd time was even worse, we only went because we had a ny virgin with us who wanted to go. The food there is seriously over rated.Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -

Not the most logical for when planning an intinerary that includes Times Square, and somewhere good to eat afterwards. There are very few places good around Times Square, and Virgils is one of them.
We all know the best BBQ is at Fette Sau in Brooklyn though, but that's only good if someone is going through to Brooklyn.

In NYC now.
Word of warning, something I got caught out on, groupon vouchers aren't as good as they seem due to local taxes!
Also after some help, staying midtown in Hudson hotel, can anyone recommend somewhere to watch the Wales six nations match tomorrow. Awkward time over here, kick off 830 am.0 -

We watched the Grand Slam game against France last March 17th in 'The Parlour' [Upper West Side, 250 West 86th at Broadway]
Probably not too far on the subway?
Kicked off at the same time too so we had breakfast etc there [and didnt leave until 2am the following morning!] :beer:0 -
As for all 5 boroughs, easy! Just have to plan well!! I can help with places to visit in the other boroughs if you need.
I'd be interested in this if you do have suggestions, particularly Queens as I quite fancy heading over there to check out some of the more interesting ethnic food places at some point. Maybe Brooklyn too, especially any places worth exploring that might not be mentioned in the typical guidebook "cross the Brooklyn Bridge then head here" lists.0
