M4RKM, thanks for your information on travelling to the hotel from JFK, I have saved your post and will print it out nearer the time.
I'm currently trying to piece together an inventory for the week which so far includes the following attractions:
Shopping: FAO Schwarz, SoHo, Times Square, Macy's, Ground Central Terminal, Rockefeller Center
I think that the majority of these are all fairly central to the Times Square area so may be able to get the majority done in a day?
Parks: Central Park
Obviously this is the destination I'm less stressed about given it's proximity and it can be done at any time.
Landmarks: Brooklyn Bridge, Top of the Rock, Ground Zero, Empire State Building, UN Headquarters, Chrysler Building, Statue of Liberty, Staten Island Ferry
Quite a substantial list, and not sure of what ones I need to book in advance other than the Empire State Building. I also know that the Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island is closed at the moment and may not be open by March.
Museums: MoMA, Metropolitan Musem of Art, Federal Reserve Bank of NY, NY Public Library, 9/11 Memorial
I think that the MoMA is free on a Friday evening and the others are all free apart from the Metropolitan? Obviously they're all quite spaced out though.
Currently in the process of estimating whether doing all of these is possible or even if we can afford to do it all. Need to break down the areas into areas and decide what is best to book before we go.
I'm trying to work everything out by myself and I don't wany anybody to think I'm being lazy, but would just appreciate advice on separating the activities into areas and deciding if anything isn't worth doing or if some things need to be booked before we leave.
Sorry for rambling. I'm really looking forward to the trip and have been for almost a year now but now it's so close I'm stressing that I'm not planned enough! Thanks in advance for all your help.0 -

EDIT: hahaha, just found you on Trip Advisor and I am the New York City Brewers website finding out more details. note, beer week, not beer fesitval.
Unsurprisingly, my name is the same on TripAdvisor. Yes, Beer Week. There isn't much detail yet for us punters on what's happening for beer week, but in previous years (no guarantees it is the same, as it's a new group of people running it), you bought a passport (book), with loads of coupons in it. Each coupon was good for 1 beer in a particular bar from a particular brewery. The beer was priced at $3, and could be ANYTHING, amazingly strong and hoppy Double IPA's or a sweet imperial stout, or a really solid Pale Ale.
It is tiring going bar hopping and sampling all the beer, but it's great fun, and one of the reasons I head to NYC these days. Now if only I could sort out my own life, and get things booked I'll be there myself!0 -

I'm sure I could come up with something that would work. You're missing out on a lot of NYC though, limiting yourself to Midtown, Central Park, and then straight down to Lower Manhattan. The most interesting part of NYC isn't anywhere on your itinerary yet. Soho, Tribeca, Greenwich Village, The HighLine, Union Square, Brooklyn (either Park Slope, Dumbo, Williamsburg). How many days/nights are you doing again?

Thanks, M4RKM. We're doing six full days, staying seven nights. We arrive at JFK at around 1PM on the Thursday and our flight back is at 9PMish the next Thursday.
SoHo and Brooklyn Bridge are both on my list, so I suppose if we go to the effort of waking the Bridge we may as well check out a bit of Brooklyn.
We're not the best navigators around so I didn't want to put too much down for fear of getting lost and missing things. Where would I go about booking the ToTR and MoMA linked ticket? Is it worth doing both ToTR and ESB? Thanks again for all your help.0 -
I've also never bothered myself with the UN building, so far east, nothing else near it....
The UN building is an easy 10 min stroll from Grand Central, just head east past the Chrysler building and turn left just before the water. It's quite nice to see all the flags flying outside.
I think they do tours for those who are interested.2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07

But, getting lost in Manhattan is part of the fun!! Let me take a look at everything and see what I can come up with...jackieblack wrote: »The UN building is an easy 10 min stroll from Grand Central, just head east past the Chrysler building and turn left just before the water. Hmm. There is an amazing beer pub 9 minutes walk from Grand Central, and they have over 100 beers! That 1 minute difference is why I've probably never been to the UN Building!

I will follow this with interest as we are there 6 nights, and currently putting things into areas to visit but its hard to know if too many/not enough within a day. Look forward to seeing your suggestions0 -
