Mrs PB loves steaks and reckons on the best shes ever had was at blue smoke in NY, and they did fab burgers too, ohh and you've gotta try shake shack, I prefer the one on the upper east side cos then you can walk into central park and sit in the park and munch.

I've been watching 'Best Food Ever' on Netflix (I'm addicted to American trash TV) and this was mentioned in the BBQ episode so I put it on our list, my husband is pretty much an abject carnivore (he'll eat nothing green!!) so steaks/ribs/wings will be what we're looking to eat I think haha!

Just googled Blue Smoke and its now on my list . Around the flatiron too . One of my favorite areas. Keans Steakhouse behind Macys my DD visited in 2010 and loved it . Was told about it from staff at macys deli. Keans were doing a promo on mustards serving on Brisket and pulled pork with different breads etc. So different to our drag them in bleed them dry sling them out policies .
Sadly it looks like the round trip to a supplier in Hartford CT is back on and up for grabs people think because i had the last one..... so unfair .

  • just looking at hotels myself - where did you decide on?

Booked the Salisbury Hotel, Midtown & paid extra to fly Virgin (got good times so arriving lunchtime and leave late evening).

We are flying into JFK and back from Newark so need to sort transfers out. Any recommendations?

I would also like to see a baseball or basketball game. I've looked on the team's sites but either they dont have tickets or they are $200 each. Do you think we could get them when we are in NYC or does anyone know where we could get them from/or have I tried the right place and they are sold out (guess this is the answer).

Just brought some guide books so starting to look at what we want to see. If anyone knows any good websites please point me in the right direction - im getting a bit overwhelmed by the amount of things there are to do and differering information :)

Thanks v much for all your help so far

I've used Ticketmaster.com many times to buy tickets for basketball (Knicks) & ice hockey etc. You can select the option to collect from venue.

There's also been a few times i've managed to get Knicks tickets by going to Madison Square Garden on the day of the game :)

    Book by Jan. 4.

I was very tempted, but seems as I dont have my passport back yet, I am unable to book anything! Boo!

Thank you so much for posting this, I was just about to give up looking for a NY break until I saw your post, I booked 6 nights at Yotel over Easter, I saved over £1000!! Now I'm just looking for things to do while I'm there, just scanning the thread for good booking sites :)
  • Hi all, can I firstly say a big thanks to everyone who contributes to this thread, it is very helpful.

In just a few months we'll be on our way to NYC, we're flying from Heathrow to JFK on the 28th February and returning on the 7th March.

We're staying at the Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott in Times Square, and I was just wondering if it would be best/cheaper to book a car from the airport or to catch the AirTrain from the airport to Jamaica and then go to Penn State?

Also, we haven't actually booked anything ahead yet. The amount of things to do is, as others have pointed out, very overwhelming. I know it's best to book the Empire State Building in advance and I will also book a time to go to the 9/11 Memorial. What else should I book in advance? We want to do all of the main touristy things during the days such as Central Park, Ellis Island etc. but are stuck for relatively cheap evening activities. There are some youngsters going but they're 15 and 18 so not old enough to go out drinking. I looked at Broadway prices but they are a little out of our price range unfortunately.

Sorry for bombarding you all with questions, I just want to put a plan together so we know what we're doing on what days etc. but I don't know where to start! Thanks.

I just used stub hub to buy tickets for the nets game, really good prices (a bit above face value).

If I want to see Jersey Boys will I be better off waiting till I get there? The only day I can go is Tuesday March 14. If so is going the day of the show the cheapest way of getting tickets?
