Hope this helps someone, I applied for the ESTA visa online today using the website given to me by travel agent and was charged£44.99, obviously I was redirected to a rip off site. Make sure you put the http in the browser bar, I didn't realise this happened with visas, I was aware of it with the E11 forms, gutted but too late now.0

A quick google of ESTA gives you the real website as a first hit (ignoring sponsored results). As an ESTA isn't a Visa (visas can only be issued by the embassy), then people offer a service to assist with the application. Is it a scam? No, because the websites normally clearly state what they're doing. Is it convenient, yes, and in this instance, it isn't the website that is at fault, but your travel agent.
I personally would write a firm complaint to the Travel Agent, as they're supplying the wrong information and they should only be supplying the https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov address as the one to get the ESTA from
At current exchange rates, it's £8.75 for the ESTA, so demand £36.24 back as a refund.
I'm wondering if they're getting a kick back....

Your holiday sounds exactly like what we're looking to get out of NYC as a couple, thanks SO much for the useful reccomendations! I only wish we were going for as long as you did!
We're definitely going to the Upright Citizens Brigade though!:heart2:0 -

Hi, I'm hoping you lovely people can give me your opinions please, I'm taking my sister to NYC at the beginning of March for 5 days and whilst we are there we are seeing Lady Gaga at the Barclays Center, Brooklyn. Even though this will be my third trip to NYC, I have yet to travel on the metro:embarasse.
We intend to buy a 7 day pass for this visit but my question is: Would it be safe to travel on the metro after the lady gaga gig from Brooklyn back into manhattan at around 11pm-midnight? should we maybe get a cab instead? replies gratefully received. many thanks. xx.
(btw, we are 2 ladies 39 and 41 so not young'uns but still travelling alone so to speak!)Tara the Jack Russell, gone to the bridge 5 February 2014.Welcomed Toby & Tilly the Labrador-Daschund crossbreeds from Serbia 24 April 2014. Thank you to Serbia's Forgotten Paws for them

Think about it this way. There are going to the THOUSANDS of people leaving the Barclays Center after the concert. You could wait for HOURS on the street, trying to get a taxi, (and taxi's rarely roam Brooklyn), or you could follow the THOUSANDS of other people and get the Subway back into NYC.
11pm / Midnight isn't late, the Subway is busy til gone 3am.
I've never travelled on the Metro in New York City, mainly because the Metro is a commuter railroad to upstate NYC and Connecticut. I know you mean the Subway, but New Yorkers may not, so be careful when mixing them phrases, as you may get directed to the wrong place!

Watch out for the little monsters ! Subways are safe ...... I eat them all the time ! Get yourselves "metrocards" and cruise the tunnels. Get the NYC subway and bus app if you have a smart phone or tablet , it will help you navigate the city. But really it is safe and straight forward.

Hi
I'm planning on doing some shopping during my trip to New York during the Easter week 25th-31st march 2013. I read that there is a sales tax exemption on clothing and shoes under $110 in New York State but does that include both the state and city tax or just the state tax? Their tax system is really confusing!!0
