ive just found £338 with american airlines for the same date

i just had a quick nosey on expedia at hotels - I was expecting £100 a night as I thought 5 nights would be long enough, but the majority I have seen are double that!

I dont have the money right now to book those flights - had a regular saver on the go last year that is due back to me any day now.

Are those the prices I should expect to pay?

September hotels are always sky high. I work in $ as I book on the likes of quikbook, but a decent Manhattan hotel, you're looking a minimum of $220 before tax (which is around £135 per night!).

Long island City is cheaper, 1 stop away from Manhattan, and you'll get prices around $125 per night (or £76 per night!).

It really depends what you want out of a hotel. Going over the last week of Aug / First week of Sept, you'll find cheaper hotel prices, but flights will be more. It's an evil catch 22 around that time of year

Hi, right done a bit of online searching today and come up with the following:
    Salisbury Hotel £721 + 2 flights with Delta to JFK for £471 each (lhr direct) 04/04/2013 - 10/04/2013 (2 A)

    or Hotel 31 £524/44 (120 East 31st st), Da Vinci Hotel (£665 244w 56th st)
Got flights skyscanner.net, tried expedia, booking.com & travel republic. Not tried Quikbook will look at that,

I am completely flexible with dates - can do anytime September right through to December. His birthday is 29th August, party is on 31st (hopefully).
I havent had a chance to read through this thread, but is there a 'cheaper' time to go?
I was hoping to get flights & hotel for around £1000 for the 2 of us, as I didnt think the hotels would cost more than the flights! Silly me!

When you get to Orlando, are you staying at a condo or villa that has washing facilities? That would reduce your clothes requirements.!

Yes its a villa with laundry facilities so do hope this will allow us to keep the clothes requirement down. We just weren't sure how much we would be able to use the Orlando clothing in the other locations or whether these called for totally separate wardrobes.

We've done a similar trip, also with two teenage girls, and took two cases out (with a further two inside).

Your girls must travel far lighter than mine. Have already ruled out taking 3 sets of GHDs and hairdriers etc :D

Essentials for all locations: comfy shoes, more than one pair so you can give your feet a break.

June is NYC is likely to be pleasant, even hot, so your Orlando clothes could partially do there. You might be unlucky And need warmer stuff, but layering will help there.

Im a bloke dont know if I do layering
Will temp/weather in Toronto be similar to NYC ?

T shirts and shorts would be my choice, supplemented with say one pair of jeans (which you could wear to travel in if you wanted to further reduce luggage) and a jacket / hoody. A smart top / skirt or trousers for a nice meal or a show perhaps?

    Thanks for the tips

However much you think you'll need, you will probably need less - I'm guessing your 17 year olds, and perhaps yourselves, will also be buying clothes out there? That's why we limit ourselves to two cases outbound.

    Alas, I suspect so

Not heard of the Da Vinci Hotel, but Midtown West shouldn't be too bad location.

Salisbury would be my pick out of those three. Have you checked the price of the oft recommended Cosmopolitan Hotel in Tribeca. It's normally a good budget hotel and is an awesome area for restaurants and nightlife as well as links to all the tourist attractions.

    Thanks M

Yes, Cheapest times to go to NYC are as follows.

Jan - Mid March. - Winter Low Season, Cold. Cheap.
July - Unbearably humid at times, Hot. Cheap
August - Towards the end of the month, better weather is starting, and prices are still low. Prices normally sky rocket at the Beginning of September, just after Labor day, because people have the holiday, and also the UN is normally in session. Labor day this year is 2nd September.

So, You'd probably see some good rates around the last week of august, flying back into the UK on the Sunday 1st / Monday 2nd September.

If you're planning after the 2nd December, expect to probably pay nearly 50% more.

Another thing I wanted to ask is about tickets for shows/Knicks and passes that I may buy(travel/sightseeing). Should I factor this into my spending money or keep it separate, so for instance should it be $1000 and money for tickets/passes or $1000, including tickets/passes?

hab92 - only you can really decide that, because it depends on what price tickets / shows you want to see. Personally, my spending money covers food / beer / transportation / entrance fees to tourist attractions.

Anything like music concerts, sports events, or comedy/shows that I go to, I've normally booked in advance, and this isn't part of my spending money.

    Hope that helps.

The 20% offer at Rates2Go is still going for those of you who are looking for hotels. However, it seems that the number of hotels is decreasing. I guess there are so many promo bookings per hotel.

    http://www.ratestogo.com/promo/rtgmobile

You have to search and pay in Australian Dollars.
  • Im having trouble booking Carmel Cars for airport pick up, does anyone know how I can book it without a contact number?

It does not provide enough space for my mobile number, could I possibly put a fake one down and book it??
