Hello Mr Ken !
Yes get a Metro card which will give you access to the subway and the buses. we went to Jersey boys a couple of years ago and loved it. (well at least I stayed awake !)
If anyone is planning to do NYE next year, take a look at Fox News (if you can) See if you fancy being caged from 3pm onwards !

They are a business, they'll list anything, and it is up to the apartment owners to ensure they're not breaking the law. It's all the Terms when they sign up.
Now, I've done an airbnb private room in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and it was an interesting way to stay in NYC. Personally, I think a hotel is better, and I wouldn't do it again. If you look at certain hotels, you'll be able to stay, have you looked at the Country Inn & Suites in Long Island City, Queens?

No I haven't but a friend stayed there and reccomended it to me so I will deffo have to check it out now its had two reccomendations. We're honestly fine with sharing though if it means we save some money. And we're going to be out and about all day and night most likely so really just need a bed to be honest!
Does anyone have any reccomendations for good guide books/websites that give info on 'alternative' stuff to do in NYC? We wanna do the main bits obviously but I'm interested in seeing something a bit different, my brothers girlfriend is going this month and has booked onto a Hip Hop tour of Harlem which looks amazing.:heart2:0 -
Has anyone had any experiences with The Edison Hotel in Times Square?
Location is great but the reviews are a bit hit and miss.0 -

I've stayed there twice. The first time, was for my first ever trip to NYC. The second, my fifth. It's art deco style in the foyer, but the rooms, are dated, there were issues with plumbing too in the room I was staying in.
It's old and tired in my opinion, and you can probably do better. It is however, one of the few hotels that is actually near Times Square, so if you're doing loads of theater in the evening, it is useful. (half a block!)0 -

i've read that some people have even suffered with bed bugs! This place sounds like a total nightmare the more I look into it, I should of done this before I booked! My mistake I guess.
What issued did you have with plumbing? I've seen quite a few people complain about the showers with poor water pressure etc.
Was it clean and well kept? The last thing I want is to turn up to a dirty hotel room!0 -
Can I please thank posters on here, got back yesterday from an amazing 6 days in NYC. We did pretty much everything we wanted to do but left some for another trip (already discussing). Everyone's advice and comments were really helpful and helped make our trip a good one. Happy new year xx0

Well done Annie you will have to do a trip report !!!
The Edison ........ Well we have used it a couple of times and it has been fine. They were refurbing rooms on our last visit, but the rooms we have had were very dated. They were clean (no bugs) This was almost 2 years ago, so they may have done all the rooms by now. TS location could not be much better for theartre and subway etc. We also use the Cafe Edison for breakfast some mornings, if we are not rushing off .......... sit at the counter if you can (it's like the UN and very interesting/funny) Staff shouting and running everywhere !!!

Excellent, I hope we don't run into any bug problems! I don't mind it being dated aslong as it's clean and fairly nice. I'll take note to use Cafe Edison, I remember a few years ago it was closed due to hygiene reasons which is a tad worrying but if its re-opened I'll definitely pay it a visit. I remember a deli nearby, Dannys Deli I think. Wonderful place to grab a bite to eat.0
