Morning everyone.
I will be starting on read through this thread later today.
My husband turns turns 30 this year & I would love to organise a trip to NYC as a surprise.
His birthday is late August, so available to travel anytime September or later.
Found flights for £310 each from Dublin around 19th September so will look into this a bit more. I was thinking of going for 5 nights. Neither of us have been b4 but we have been to vegas twice.0 -
£310 each including taxes? Book it. Do not hesitate, book that right this minute.
Hotels in September are SKY HIGH prices though. Catch 22 isn't it!0 -
Hi, would be interested to know where your getting your prices from, we are looking to go April for 6nights and im getting prices just over £1700 (BA.com), would like to get it closer to £1500 for the 2 of us.
Been looking at skyscanner.net for flights and expedia etc for accomodation - are there better sites to look at or do you go direct to the hotels?
Quite overwhelmed by the hotel element, its hard to know what is best, or good. Im reviewing Travel Advisor which is v.helpful. Thanks0 -

I personally don't book packages. Mainly because the majority of the time, I'm a solo traveller, and packages then have a single person supplement. Anyhoo...
Flights - Kayak I find more reliable for flights than SkyScanner - SkyScanner is really good for European Flights.
Hotels - For NYC, I find that QuikBook is a really good site, followed by hotel sites themselves. Look out for deals on travelzoo too!
April is when prices increase normally. First week of April will be pricey, as Easter is earlier this year, so expect prices to be higher than what you ideally want.
For more budget hotels, look in Long Island City. Country Inn & Suites is showing rates of $106.25 per night for 6 nights from the 10th April, (before tax).
Also, the $$ rate is looking good now, at over $1.63 which means that booking direct in $ could be better than UK prices on UK sites (where the price has been set ages ago!)
Hope that helps

I agree with Mark. I booked our holiday individually and it worked out cheaper than packaged holidays.
Im hoping the dollar stays at the rate it is, or even gets better come March! Knowing my luck, it'll drop like a sack of.. bricks.0 -
I'm offended that people are repeatedly using this anti semitic phrase for B&H Photo in NYC. Can I please ask that you edit your post, and I'll delete this whinge.
There is no need for offensive comments like this on this thread at all.0 -
Annie - Pretty sure it is called B&H Photo Video.
I'm unsure how asking you to remove anti-semitic remarks can be offensive, but I don't use PMs on here...
Well I'm offended firstly because you chose to 'tell me off' without first checking that it wasn't posted innocently (which it was) the words I used were mentioned on here before and that stuck in my head which is why I used that phrase in my report, nothing was written to offend and I am certainly not anti - semitic in any way and I take offence at the implication that because I wrote it then I must be. PM is there to be used and may I suggest that if you feel the need to 'tell someone off' about a post you use that instead of sharing your views on the thread. I will edit my original post now and let that be the end of it.0 -

i took a screen shot on my ipad so i will check later & let you know where i got those prices.
Flying from belfast would be closer to us, but it is much cheaper to fly from dublin - we did the same for vegas, and my parents are doing the same for tenerife.
I could be wrong but it might be due to the airport taxed being cheaper outside of the UK?
Thanks for your replies
**EDIT**
Just did a quick search on opodo & it is under £360 per person currently for 19th sept

What a great price! It is over £100 more from Heathrow for the exact same dates. Haven't seen anything under £400 from the UK in ages!0
