;50884023]Going next week, got few questions :-

1. Empire State
Is it worth paying extra for 102nd floor ($17 more)?
Is it worth paying for express pass (double!)? (we plan to go in the evening)

2. Statue of Liberty
Is it still worth going since statue is closed?
Ellis Island too?
How long will both take?
Can we buy tickets on the day?

3. Ground zero
Need to book in advance or turn up on day?
Im going to answer as many of your questions as I can but other memebers will need to answer others.

I went to the empire state building in the late evening around 10pm ( this was in Oct 08) and it was very quiet we went straight up no queues so I would say in my experience no don't pay for the express pass.

Statue of liberty, not everyone goes to the top of liberty or to the museum anyway so even though liberty is closed it's certainly still worth seeing up close. First time I went I didnt go inside liberty and it was still an good experience.
I found Ellis island very enjoyable lot's of history very interesting I would recommend you going. Time wise it can vary I know people who have been and spend hours on ellis island as its so interesting however we only spend about 2 hours there.
Also there's queues and wait time for the ferry, I recommend going first thing in the morning to avoid the queues.
You can book on the day as your not going inside liberty.

I didn't go to NY last year so can't advise about the 9/11 memorial site. I have just looked on the website and it say's 'easiest and quickest way to make a reservation is online' so you must be able to get on the day however they recommend to reserve in advance online.
New York ♥..........These street will make you feel brand new, Big lights will inspire you.
No place in the world that can compare ♥ 2nd October 2010 ♥
• Staying in Trump Soho. Asked them about car from EWR. $194 each way! Think I'll stick with Carmel - $90 or so for return.....
• Hmmm. Some well dodgy review for Carmel here. http://www.yelp.co.uk/biz/carmel-car-and-limousine-service-new-york

Any recommendations?
• Anyone know if its worth waiting until I get to NY to buy a Kindle WiFi?

Hi,

Does anyone know of any decent shops to buy blu-ray discs in, my blu-ray player is mulit-region so won't have a problem playing Region 1 discs.

Cheers

Andy

Head down to J&R at Park Row. Things ain't that much cheaper though, all the bargains (much like the UK) are online!

Yeah, buy them out there, cos they are cheaper. You can get them in BestBuy. $79 plus tax works out to be £56ish.

A Kindle? This depends on whether you´re buying the 3G one or just the book-reader. Be very wary of buying a 3G one anywhere if you´re thinking of using it for email access and web-browsing. I have one which doesn´t work abroad. The Kindle adviser tells me: You can´t use the Kindle for web-browsing. It has been like this since the latest software update of the kindle keyboard, the 3g connection on the kindle was not strong enough to support a regular or stable web browser experience, so that;s why it got restricted to be use with a Wi-Fi connection.

The 3G version has never been advertised as a internet browsing device, It is a "experimental feature", and the 3G has always been to download books on the move. It clearly states that on the Amazon website.
