Even the English speaking cabbies couldn't understand if you have a "Local Accent"Huge difference in The English spoken word and The American spoken word. The grid road system is the best city i have ever visited but as Phat says you need to have cross Ave&Street . 6 passengers (8seater)MPV are very common and you wont need to wait any longer at JFK unless there are alot of larger groups which isnt common. On return have a word at the hotel desk or concierge and get them to book one for you.
Greenface, will the 6 seaters take 6 luggage and handluggage aswell?
We are going on Thursday and never travelled in a 6 before, so this bit is all new to us.0 -
The 6 seater i was refering to are actually 8 people (6+driver & empty seat next to driver) can be compared to a transit/galaxy/806 size of mini van. I would say yes there will be something big enough for six & cases . If your coming out of JFK their is a taxi rank with a person co-ordinating things he will find out where your going and asses the size of your party and allocate you a suitable sized cab. Very well organized and will tell you how much and often how long the journey will take.
We have 5 people 4 cases 5 hand luggage & 1 wheelchair .easy fitted:cool: hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0 -
We have done it before from JFK, but this is from Newark.
I am probably going to have to book a towncar service.0 -
Havent needed a "bigger"car from Newark so cannot comment but i am sure there is a similar format to grab a bigger car there:cool: hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0

Just looked at reviews on TripAdvisor for Candlewood Suites New York City Times Square. Does anyone on here have personal experience? Thanks.0

Hi,
Does anyone know of any decent shops to buy blu-ray discs in, my blu-ray player is mulit-region so won't have a problem playing Region 1 discs.
Cheers

Unless you're after something specific that you cant buy in the uk then i wouldnt bother as they are usually as expensive as the uk, however if you insist try j&r or blockbusters or one of the multiple games storesLive each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0

Hi,
We are off to New York on the 9th March for a week and staying at the Broadway Plaza Hotel, booked Hotel and Virgin Atlantic flights ex Heathrow through Expedia for £715 each for 3 of us. Just wondering if anybody knows what the rules are re State Tax if I book trips/transfers from the UK on US Websites? I can go through Expedia/Viator/Attractions tickets Direct and pay in GBP for the things that we want to do and wait until we get to New York for MTA tickets but wondered if the State Tax applies to everything you buy including MTA tickets. Wife and daughter went last year but bought some tickets once they got there and some before they went but can't remember how they worked out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Checkout https://www.seatguru.com for the specific flights. I was on a Continental flight once to the US and it was a small plane: 3 seats either side of one aisle. Okay, but entertainment was on flip down screens every half dozen rows: pretty rubbish compared with the usual entertainment systems you might expect!
Seatguru will also tell you seat pitch, good/bad seats, etcPlan for tomorrow, enjoy today!0 -
Going next week, got few questions :-
1. Empire State
Is it worth paying extra for 102nd floor ($17 more)?
Is it worth paying for express pass (double!)? (we plan to go in the evening)
2. Statue of Liberty
Is it still worth going since statue is closed?
Ellis Island too?
How long will both take?
Can we buy tickets on the day?
3. Ground zero
Need to book in advance or turn up on day?0
