Just got an email from YOTEL - 20% off Jan & Feb (2 night min) - book by 15th Jan. It's pay on arrival and cancellable so nothing to loose!

Hi I am looking at flights from Edinburgh to Newark. Been keeping an eye on them for a few months now. Looking to go in February 2012. Went in April (more expensive than Feb) 2 years ago and it cost us £333 going on a Friday. Looking to book Thursday (as it's cheaper) to Monday and the cheapest I can get direct just now is £422. Today it's gone up to £546!

I tried going so far with a booking on Continental website to see the availability and there seems to be over 90 seats free (does anyone know if that's reliable?) so I am checking lots of different comparison websites every day. I'm hoping the prices will come down after Christmas. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

Use Kayak, it is normally the most reliable, without actual dates it is difficult to help, so I just chose random dates in Feb for 1 week and the price is £448.07. The way airlines work is they have class codes, and each class has a limited amount of tickets available, and sometimes they only trickle one or two through.

There are also other flights to consider, especially if saving money is important to you. EDI -> AMS -> JFK with KLM is only £388, and the £60 saving is quite a chunk of money. Doesn't take that much longer, and you still get into NYC for 1pm.

THanks for your help. Going Thursday 23rd to Monday 27th February. It is the week after half term. Yes I am looking at 1 stop flights too. I am taking my other half as a surprise for his birthday so it is 60 x 2 which is a night is a hotel!

unfortunately neither of us have credit cards and have poor credit ratings so cannot apply for them, it is really worrying me that this will stop us going. any suggestions? i only have a basic bank account as well :-(

i would really appreciate any advice

Sorry, will we not need one for checking into a hotel?

we stayed at a hotel in windsor recently and this was an issue and really embarrasing.

In my experience I have been able pay in cash $ at a hotel. Approx $100
    or so

I'd suggest double checking with the hotel before you book to double check.

    Enjoy planning your trip! :j
