We are looking at flights from London to New York in August and getting prices of around £700 per person. I am surprised they are so much considering we are booking so far in advance. Does anyone have any advice about this? Should we wait until nearer the time or will the prices go up even more?

Are you including a Saturday night within your stay? If not, that would be pushing prices up.

    What Sue says!

Also, August is a great time for cheap hotels in NYC, so what you need to look at as well, is your overall package price. Yeah, you might spend more on flights, but you'll save on bargain hotels, if you book things at the right time.

I just kayaked the 18th - 23rd (5 nights) of August 2011, from LHR to JFK and found direct flights at a price of £646. That ain't cheap. Under £500, and preferably under £400 is the target price IMO. Looking at Delta (I fly with them a lot) the fares are not in the cheapest fare class, so there might be some wiggle room.

It is only March, so August is 5 months away. Normally, the cheaper prices appear anything between 3 months - 6 weeks away from departure, but, it is your call whether you risk prices going up, and book now, or whether you decide to hang fire to see if the prices drop.

Yes, we are planning on going 12th August and returning 16th August. Don't think they could put the prices up anymore than this?!!

    Hmmm!!

We are off to NY in Aug to attend a wedding and for the flights alone it would have been £2500 with virgin and delta so they could go up a poop load more.

However I managed to get a package deal with a 4 star hotel, with the same virgin flights, for less than £1600 for the two of us, so have you looked at a package deal or flights only?

hey sarah, just looked at your dates on kayak, and found £433 for flights and hotel (although not one you'd probably choose) from a link for expedia "Save up to 30% with flight & hotel packages" SO you could use those flights, air canada with 1 stop, then just book another hotel. Much cheaper than others at the moment...

Hi Matt, thanks for taking the time to look for this for me. Our main problem is getting there as quickly as possible as we've got family looking after the kids and we want to make the most of our time. However, it's something we might consider as the difference in price is so great.

Can I ask how you found this package? Sounds like a great deal!
