Has anyone walked the Highline? just thought i would ask again.

Yup. Numerous times actually. I think this march was the first time I didn't actually do it. 2nd Phase should be open soon, it's really nice, and gives you a different perspective on the streets, as you are looking down on them....

    Flight Prices.

I'm sure prices were just as bad this time last year for the summer period, and then eventually dropped to the more appealing £450 mark. If I apply my mythical 3 month rule to flights, I've looked for ones in June - Direct flights for £430, bang on target price.

I don't advise on what to do, that is entirely your choice. I am always looking at flight prices. Prices do change on a regular basis.

Can I ask how you found this package? Sounds like a great deal!

I always shop around and always end up booking through expedia, I've booked 6 trips with them and dozens of hotels and never had a problem with them.

And they do quidco and nectar points too

You know, I think I'm going to chance it and wait. If the worse comes to the worse and flights go up we'll have to take the indirect flight option. I'll keep a close eye on things!

Hello, I'd be ever so grateful if anyone could help please, I'm taking my boyf away for his birthday next month(!) of course need to book the flight ASAP, just wondering if I'm missing any discount tricks? I've gone through skyscanner etc

The Quote itself: £656.69 inc. pp (£1313.38 total)
    The Airline: Delta (through Ebookers)
    The departure Airport: Manchester
The Holiday Dates: 16th April - 22nd April
The number of people travelling: 2
Is an in-flight meal included: Yes (but not bothered about these)
Any specific requirements: Am happy with Birmingham or Manchester Airport (or any other close to Midlands) but not London please
We want to fly out on the 16th or 17th (if there's a big price difference), but we must be back by early morning the 23rd April.

These flights leave Manchester 16th April at 11.05am, arrive JFK at 13.55pm and return 22nd April at 19.40pm, arriving Manchester on the 23rd at 8.10am

They are direct, which isn't crucial, but is preferable of course

I have an AMEX card if that helps as I know some airlines offer discounts, I also use Quidco and Topcashback

    Thank you so much

(I keep posting this in the wrong place, hopefully this is ok!)

I've had a quick look on statravel.co.uk and sadly I think it's so expensive because you want to fly out on a weekend. The best there (statravel) was £595 from Birmingham, 16th-22nd April but it does include a stop.

If you could fly two days earlier then flights on the 14th-20th (assuming you'd come back two days earlier too) are £454, again from Birmingham and including a stop.

    HTH, happy holidays!

ouch! £650 is not a bargain for a flight to NYC, but it seems to be the price airlines want to charge from Manchester. IMO it is pennywise but pound foolish to ignore London. Direct flights for your dates from London are £525, so the saving is £250. You will save money by flying from London, even when you factor in the cost of travelling there, and maybe a hotel the night before. I live in Wakefield, and fly from LHR at times, because it works out cheaper, and more often than not, I travel solo. With there being 2 of you, the saving is even greater.

Check the airlines websites themselves, the three airlines that fly direct from Manchester are Delta and American through to JFK, and Continental, to Newark, which is in New Jersey, but may be convenient depending on where you're staying.

It won't be any cheaper to move your dates to not include a saturday night, and as your dates are so fixed, I can't think of anything else to suggest to reduce your price. One thing to note, as you're flying a scheduled flight, not charter, you're always going to get baggage allowance and meals included.

Hey there, just to say thank you again for your help, you are quite right, I cannot ignore the saving that London represents just so I can save an hour's driving time (on top of the 2 I'd be doing to Manchester I mean). So off I scuttle to find flights and airport parking, thank you again :T

Thank you for that, I am going to admit defeat and travel from London I think, although I will look again at Birmingham as that is so much closer, thank you :)

Hi Matt, thanks for taking the time to look for this for me. Our main problem is getting there as quickly as possible as we've got family looking after the kids and we want to make the most of our time. However, it's something we might consider as the difference in price is so great.
You do realise August in NY is going to be VERY hot and HORRIBLY humid? That's why hotels will be cheap(er), no-one wants to be there ...

:D True. I just didn't want Sarah to arrive with a packed itinerary in her head, only to collapse of heat exhaustion in the first five minutes.

Although at the time I was immensely frustrated by the boys' refusal to think about what they wanted to do on our trip before we arrived, I think that worked out best in the end, because we weren't even pretending to cram it all in. They're young enough to go back if they ever want to, and I'm old enough to know that there are places I'd rather be, certainly in July / August. :rotfl:
