Ok, you cant book taxi's maybe you have booked a car service?
Novotel is very nice, odd lay out as you have to use a lift to get to the reception then another lift to your room to utilise your time I would suggest making yourself a google map and pinning all of the places you want to see and it will all become obvious whats close to each other then once your'e there get on foot and walk, or use the subway, think people are often suprised how close things are together.Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -

Make the most of your first eve in NY and help to adjust to the time difference by perhaps doing TOTR that evening. We did similar on our 1st evening. Arrived at hotel approx 3pm, walked to Times Square for a poke around, got something to eat and then up TOTR for around 7pm. It was very quiet so spent a good hour up there till the sun set at around 8. Walked back to hotel and to bed as by now it was approx 2am British time.
You'll have plenty of time to do all the things mentioned just group them together as suggested by Phatbear.
If you do the 3hr circle line cruise or similar, check out the lower floors of Penn Station as have really good KMart store, (similar to Woolies) good bargains on clothes etc.
Brooklyn Bridge, China Town and Little Italy can be grouped together along with South Street Seaport.
Lots of really useful info on this forum. I read all 200+pages before our holiday, cut and pasted the best tips and used this as the basis of our holiday.

traveladdict8 wrote: »Hi, I would like some advice. I am flying into JFK at 8.20am on 16th August, then flying out the same day at 18.40.
Having never been to NYC before I wondered if this is long enough for me to visit the city itself, rather than stay in the airport? If so, could somone tell me how long it takes to get to the centre, costs, possible activities to do etc?
Thanks in advance for your help
It would be tight, IMO.
You MIGHT clear immigration etc within an hour - but it could take 2. Or more. You have GOT to be back at the airport at 16.40, and you have GOT to allow plenty of time to do that - others are better placed to say how long. Presumably you will have luggage - what are you doing with that? You won't be able to check it in before leaving the airport, there are 'left luggage' facilities of sorts but not sure if they are at the airport or elsewhere. But you have GOT to allow plenty of time for checking in and out.
So, if money is no object, then you might look for a car plus driver 'see the sights' facility, but that is all you would do: see the sights.
Is there no flexibility to either arrive a day early or leave a day late?
And where are you flying in from and leaving for? that might make a difference.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Im off to NYC in 3 weeks, just getting the finer details planned.
Were landing at JFK at 13:30 and staying at the cosmo, so Im planning on taking the Airtrain to Howard Beach, then getting the subway to chambers street A-C, then can I walk underground to Park Place 2-3? to then get the subway to the Chambers Street 1-2-3?
How have others got to Cosmo hotel? Will there be many stairs taking this route into the city, im not particulary bothered but if it is hassle I will just got for a cab from JFK.
On the first day/eve Im thinking - Brooklyn Bridge, WTC, Wall Street, possibly SOL, and Century 21?0 -

OMG No. You'll end up walking further walking underground to Park Place. Just surface at Chambers Street, and it's one block away.
Look here http://t i n y u r l .com/4fvtuta ( i hate how MSE blocks all shortening links!) for the walking directions. I know that street, so that's about as accurate as you'll get. The only stairs you'll encounter are about 2 flights at Chambers Street.0 -

Hi there
Does the hotel have a reasonable cancellation policy? Could you book now for peace of mind and keep checking prices incase they come down on the hotel website or you find a better deal elsewhere? $150 including taxes sounds good if that's for the triple room
Thanks for the advice. I booked a 1 bedroom suite (which I think is just a big room!) at the Salisbury near Central Park on what seems to be a cancellable rate with hotels.com for £130/night. I know it's not the flashest hotel around, but it gets good reviews on tripadvisor & I hope it will be OK. I doubt I'll come across anything better value.0
