    M4RKM,

    Would you spend:

$80 to stay in the Bronx,
$90 to stay in Brooklyn or
$100 to stay in Long Island?

    (for a five night trip).

I wouldn't personally stay in the Bronx, unless it was near to Yankee Stadium, and the only thing I was doing was going to Baseball Games.

Long island is a HUUUUUGE place, If you mean Long Island City, which is in Queens, then that is a different thing, and the question needs to be re asked with the correct location.

As for Brooklyn, well that's like me asking what the best hotel is in South Yorkshire. It's HUGE that place so be more specific, and I'll be able to help better. There are a few hotels in Brooklyn that just don't work for tourists, but plenty that do. bookit.com are having some great deals on right now, but some places are still 40 minutes out of Manhattan.

    Hi BB69,
I got on ok with regards to jet lag. We flew overnight, landed at LHR at 6.15am, we got to our house in Essex by 8.30am, I stayed up until 3pm, went to bed for a couple of hours, then stayed up again until 11pm, set my alarm for 8am on Sunday, got up around 8.45am and stayed up all day. I was absolutely fine, didn't really suffer at all. I slept for maybe an hour on the flight, if that as I don't sleep too well sitting in a fairly upright seat.
I tend to suffer more going somewhere with a -5 hours time difference, for the first few nights I'm lucky to see 10pm :D
    Regards

hi again, i just spoke to my travel agent and there's still time to play around with my booking for May, so the options are: The New Yorker (original choice) The Westinn, The Strand, Cosmopolitan or Casablanca?! All get good reviews on Tripadvisor although I'm pretty sure the room prices are different. I've emailed this to my travel agent to see what deals she can find but wondered which ones MSE'rs prefer?!

    hey guys
anyone here done NY for 3 nights? just wondering if you found you had enough time to do all the things you wanted to do ? if you went back would you bite the bullet and pay a bit extra to have another night or two ?
i have found a hotel an flight package i like and i could also get a plane home late on the last day like 9pm or 11pm to stretch the holiday out a bit more
i have been thinking about booking a holiday there for about 3 weeks now and im really excited, i just need to get my passport back now so i can book it!!!
We did 3 nights but that was on our way to Wildwood, NJ, so not our whole trip. We'd originally only booked 2, but we had a 'spare' night and when I got a bit antsy about where we were going to sleep the night after next, one of the boys said he'd like to stay longer in NYC. Fortunately we were able to stay in the same hotel (Cosmo), and they were happy to do it at the same rate as we'd originally booked it on.

Itinerary? Planning? I tried, I gave each boy a guidebook a few weeks ahead and tried to get them to highlight what they wanted to do in advance, no chance ... DH spent half a day in an electronics store looking at boys toys with the older 2, while I was in a guitar shop with youngest. I could do with the confused smiley again, he already had several guitars, but 'had' to buy another one. We spent quite a while locating this shop, there was one he was looking for which was actually the apartments where someone who'd written a guitar tutor lived. The doorman was NOT friendly, but an elderly lady overheard us and spent a long time chatting to DS3, she was delightful, and suggested where he could go.

3 days was enough for me, but then it was very hot (VERY HOT) and humid, and TBH I'd sooner go back to NYC than Wildwood ...

It would be a very expensive mistake if the passport didn't actually come back - mkgirl, when was the application sent off and did you use Check and Send?

Hi, I could do with some advice please. We are booked to go to New York for 3 days in late July (a stopover before main holiday in Florida), 2 adults + a 17 year old. We haven't booked the hotel yet, have just been looking around & seems we'll need to be paying at least £150/night including taxes for anything reasonably central (looked at 4 points Sheraton midtown Times square). Would we be better waiting until nearer the time & hope for a good deal to come up on e.g. travelzoo, or with us needing a room for 3, would we be better to book now in case prices go up. Thanks for any advice.

    Hi there

Does the hotel have a reasonable cancellation policy? Could you book now for peace of mind and keep checking prices incase they come down on the hotel website or you find a better deal elsewhere? $150 including taxes sounds good if that's for the triple room

I was working on £150/night - $150/night would be great! Most deals require you to book a nonrefundable rate. I was wondering about how good some of these secret deals are......
