I like the New Yorker -Not top notch but not rubbish either (and I won't pay for top notch in NYC as all I'm going to be doing is sleeping there anyway). I'd stay there again.
Location is fine -subway literally right outside and if you want to walk to Times Square-very do-able. (One evening half of us walked and the others cabbed it-with all the traffic the walkers got there first)
thanks Duchy and Greenface it's good to hear from people who've stayed am really looking forward to it!0 -

Sorry, not finding much for those dates - I think it was the week before I'd put in when I found those £400 ones...best Kayak is throwing up at the moment is £548 from Glasgow via Dublin on Aer Lingus0 -
Guys,
Where to stay in NYC, close enough (or easy enough access) to the centre attractions, quite cheaply? By cheaply, I'm thinking $70 per night, max.
We are a couple with a 3 year old child. Happy to have our child sleep in the middle with us if it mean we stay under the $70 per night bracket.
Dates are 15/04 - 20/04.0 -
$70 a night isn't going to get you anything in Manhattan. The best places to search are Long Island City in Queens, which is a short subway ride into Manhattan, but you will still have to increase your budget, the Verve Hotel is showing at $149 a night before tax (circa 15%).
Additionally, most rooms have a maximum occupancy. You're not going to get away with 2 adults and 1 child, and say you will share a bed, as it's all about fire regulations.
One thing though, you can't even get a room in a decent city in the UK for £43, and with NYC being an expensive city to stay in, your budget just doesn't match at all. $150 you have a basic budget, $200 per night, then you've got a decent budget. It's just the way hotel room prices are.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you really need to think again about your budget. You just won't get a legal, safe, legitimate accommodation in New York City for that kinda money.0 -
Hi M4RKM,
Thanks for your reply.
I realise now that $70 a night is pushing it a bit, and I don't expect to get a room in Manhattan for that.
I found the Howard Johnson Express Inn Bronx. I found that on Priceline for $403.10 total, for 5 nights. That's about $80.62 a night, which we could stretch to. Apparently, it's 42 minutes away from the Empire State Building by public transport. So that's ok.
The hotel's website says that Rollaway Beds are $10.00 and Cribs are free. I don't mind paying them $10 for a rollaway bed on upon check-in, if they say we need to get one due to fire regs.
What are your thoughts?0 -
Have you researched this hotel? Maybe take a look at some reviews..Save £12K in 2013 £4000/90000

Seemed to get a bit of bad press in 2008 and before, but looks ok now?..0 -
jammin, have you looked at bidding at Priceline? If you are willing to pay a waiting game, you can get absolute bargains.
I got Four Points by Sheraton Midtown Times Square for £54 (approx $80) + taxes = £67.21 per night (approx $100). Fab hotel, cannot recommend it enough.Gone ... or have I?0 -

Hmmm.. thanks for the suggestion. You're probably quite right. Thing is though, the wait and suspense with Priceline would kill my wife and me. We'd prefer just to find a good price, book it and relax.
I think I'm going to go with the Howard Johnson Express Inn Bronx. I know it's not the Ritz but we're only there for 5 nights then on to LA. We just need somewhere to sleep and have a bit of breakfast.
I called them up, told them I'm thinking of making a reservation on a travel agent's website, but it doesn't allow me to book for children, just adults. I asked can I book for 2 adults and then pay for a rollaway bed upon check-in. She replied you can if you want but if you prefer your child to sleep with you in your bed that's fine, no extra charge then.
So, happy days.0
