There are 2 or 3 airlines that fly direct from MAN, so you should look for flights from Delta or American to JFK, or Continental to EWR. I personally wouldn't consider the Continental flights, as EWR isn't as convenient for public transport as JFK is, especially as close to Grand Central you are.

I find it interesting that you say that. I always fly into Newark and have found it so easy to get into NYC from the airport. Leave the airport, jump on the bus directly outside the terminal, get off at Grand Central and walk the couple blocks to the Roosevelt. Job done!

prices are alot more this year so far and remember thansgiving at the end nov is a holiday (this year Thurs 24th nov)always dearer and start of xmas black friday etc etc .... Factor all this in because a.its more expensive....
    b. theres more going on.....
    c.more memorable holidays......
d.very busy manhattan is very very very busy .....
    enjoy NYC

Not really, Last year I paid £325 for my flight in March, this year I've paid £345, so £20 isn't what I call "A LOT" more expensive.

I still think people are booking too early. As to the person who got November cheap, well, if it's the beginning of November, then that is a cheaper time of year, so on and so forth. It's all supply and demand, and if I had the time and the inclination, I'd study the prices, and work out what the best time to book a flight. All I'm doing is looking at when I book, and what deals I get, and the prices before and after, so I get a grasp of it, and try help.

I'm planning a trip with my wife (she will be my wife by then!) in October. Was hoping to fly from Aberdeen. Best price I have had so far is for £850 staying at the metro for 5 nights. I've never been before so unsure if this is a good price or not. It will be for our honeymoon, do any companies do special honeymoon offers? And is the metro an ok hotel to spend 5 nights for location etc
We would also consider flying from any Scotland, but prices were about the same from Aberdeen when I checked

Flights are around £470 for some random dates in october (6th - 11th with aer lingus flying from Aberdeen) giving you 5 nights in NYC.

So, looking at quikbook for hotel rooms, and trying to stick within budget here, (around $200 a night), gives you rooms at the Eastgate Tower hotel, which is an apartment style hotel, and you're flying from your local airport.

What you've got to bear in mind is that Aberdeen isn't the biggest airport, and prices won't be as cheap from here than say the dreaded london heathrow. EDI, and GLA have better timed flights (and slightly cheaper with Aer Lingus) £446 each, and you arrive in JFK at 1pm, rather than 7pm.

Swings and roundabouts really with the hotels, and the cost, Midtown is a great location for a first time trip, so many hotel will suit. Slightly further away from Times Square is good to get a better choice of food options not solely aimed at tourists.

    Hope that helps

but a non cancellable rate on both, means no one can take benefit of a lower price nearer to the time.

I'm starting to think that Phatbear works for expedia.... ;)

    or quidco...

I based my calculations on your post Mr M, aka the cosmo/kayak rep

As far as working for expedia I wish I did it would save me a poop load of money.

I can't find the same price as yourself, I found Expedia are not £1584 for £1710 for the same hotel and flights as I've just mentioned.

    £470 + £470 + ($190*5+tax/1.55=705)=£1645

Now, if I worked for kayak / cosmo, i'd be travelling the world. Currently I've got to go to Birmingham on Monday, London on Thursday, and then New York the Tuesday following.. oh... *grins*
