I would disagree, the PE option was wonderful for us.
Loved the priority boarding, priority luggage and the extra space. Wouldn't consider flying that distance any other way

I'll second that - worth every penny and its not exactly a short flight!

I have never actually flown to New York from the UK so i can't say how the long the flight from the UK is, but i have flown from NYC to the UK many many times, each time the flight takes around 5hrs 50. If you would call that a long flight then what would you call the 18 hour one i did direct from Singapore to Los Angeles?

I really wouldn't call a flight to Eastern USA long haul. By the time you get in the air, the tv has come on, have watched a film, had something to eat and read a paper you are looking at coming in to land.

Can i be brutally honest and say that Premium Economy simply isn't worth it, even more so given the flight to NYC isn't actually that long and even less coming back.

The money would be in my opion far better spent on the hotel or spending money.

Thanks for the reply. The premium economy is partly for me (i'm over 6ft 4 - and its all in the legs...), but also as I want the enitre journey to be special.

Could you recomend any special hotels with the wow factor?
Im going same time for my hubbys 30th as a suprise treat for him. As said before premium economy isnt worth it. I booked through expedia as a package flyin with ba. How much did u want to spend?

Well, anything up to £1500 on the flights and about $200 per night or so on the hotel.
  • We flew Virgin PE for my birthday back in December (did miles plus money fare) and the cabin crew spoilt us rotten - if you can, go for it. But don't bother with BA's WT+

Depends what you are looking for as a WOW factor, do you want a hotel with a view, or one in a specific area, or are you just looking for somewhere that is very luxurious?

Trip advisor is a fantastic place to look at hotels and see real pictures of what they are like and people's experiences. That might be a starting point.

Hadn't thought of points plus money, that comes out much cheaper!

Thanks also to Lady S, i'm off to trawl tripadvisor :)

    Hi Marky,
Well this is my first post back on this thread for two years since my last trip to NY. Last year it was Arizona, Nevada and California for a long hol before DD went to Uni in Leeds. Anyway- back on point- don't want to get my head bitten off- obviously missed a lot of this thread- but welcome back as it seems you have ben mised! Is Cosmo still the hotlel of you choice for NY??
We did take your advice and stayed there on our last trip and it was great. They have an offer at the moment where breakfast in the Cosmo Cafe, is included. If this has already been mentioned then apologies in advance.
Think this year it might be back to NY!!
Oh and for me, I love Woodbury Common- more a girl thing I am sure- and I would definitely go sooner in the trip than the end for anyone who is wondering. Both our trips there were great, we got loads of stuff including Ralph Lauren bedding very cheap, Longschamp bags, CK bags and clothes plus lots more. The secret is to get the map at Woodbury first and plan where you want to go.That way you don't just wander or waste time.
  • Marky, with regards the Cosmo pricing. I know you favour Connexions, but how do they compare with booking with the Cosmo direct/through the hotel website.
I ask because the price we paid for the Beacon, through emailing them direct, was way cheaper than on all the booking sites.

In Mark's absence, when we asked if we could stay an extra night, they said they would do it at the rate we'd originally booked at, because that was cheaper than their normal rates. So I think it must vary from one place to another.
