I wouldn't call the 3030 "nice", i'd call is budget. it's on a par with the Cosmopolitan down in TriBeCa.
the thirtythirty used to be an Single Room Occupancy, which eventually (after many years operating illegally) got a certificate of occupancy as a Hotel. There are still a number of SRO rooms in the hotel, and their occupants as they do live there, for a rent stabilized price.
As for safe, manhattan is safe, and as long as you're sensible you'll be fine. you can use the subway at all hours, and it really doesn't start getting quiet on the subway til after 2am
it's a shame you can't experience a great boutique hotel nearby instead, then you do get larger rooms, and a much more personal service. There are new hotels that don't get the promotion on virgin/expedia etc and these are sometimes cheaper too..

All depends what you expect for your money and how long you spend in the room.
Its was perfectly acceptable and cheap,if i was looking to spend time dossing in the room then i would have picked somewhere with larger rooms.
I paid double to stay in Novotel TS,nice reception/veranda/bar area, but lobbys and rooms rough round the egdes.Official MR B fan club, dont go............................0 -
Thanks for the reply
Yes it would not have been my first choice, but what can you do  know friends have booked with a travel company..
The location sounds perfect and if nice/budget then thats fine. Don't get me wrong I would love to stay somewhere like the W or intercontinental but thats way out of budget. This one is spot on £ wise for me too compared to others seen plus added bonus of single rooms
There is always another trip. Cant wait to compare the difference staying upper east to staying mid town
They were recommended the Pennsylvania
PS this forum is addictive
Addictive - depends how much time I have to whether it is or not... The location is great, walking distance to Empire State, there is a good bar/restaurant a few blocks down called Blue Smoke, great ribs there, and it is in a rather quiet Murray Hill Location. There isn't much in the way of nightlife.
Now, the Pennsylvania, that hotel is scheduled to be closed, knocked down, and a posh office/apartments skyscraper to be built, so I really doubt they'll be upgrading or doing anything to their rooms, and huge hotels I find to be so impersonal.
never stayed at the W, I find them overpriced for what they are, but I did stay at the Smyth last year, and that's beautiful. In about just under 2 months, I'll be staying at the Hotel on Rivington.
Go on then, tell me how much a night it is?

I stayed in a hotel/apartment before and only sat in the living room once, it was lovely don't get me wrong, but size is not everything..0 -

About $160 a night including taxes etc - although I am still looking to find it cheaper
Whether good or not overall.. Works out well for me
I would love to try priceline too at some point, but was unable to this time as need to stay in a named place.0 -

I don't think that's too bad for April. it's getting warmer, busier, and I think a reasonable tourist class hotel for under $150 (before tax) is a good price.
I have 2 budgets for my 2 holidays. March, I want luxury for $200 a night, and September, I want a room, for under $200 a night. Same budget, different requirements, as I know September is more expensive than March!
Just had a quick glance for the cosmo in april, and they're more expensive than that, so you might not get any better.
