    Me again..

Any success stories contacting the hotel directly and asking for a rate reduction. I have seen a hotel which has an offer of 25% the rate, but after taxes etc added.. still pricey for me.

I would either like a further reduction or potentially a double room for the same price as the single. The cheaper the better really.

    Any tips appreciated

    Thanks

Oh can I ask where the 25% off is for? I started emailing a few hotels recently, out of the 4 I emailed only 1 came back offering a reduced rate. At least 2 of the other's (might have been all 3) came back with rates higher than on their own website!!

    Hello
    Thanks for the reply
So far have seen a price for £500 both ways + fare.. Do you know of ways to get it cheaper £100 sounds right up my street :) or does it just depend on the time of year?

I think i'd like to experience it once.. I dont fly often, but have always wondered what it would be like. Plus my last flight was Virgin and I walked through PE/Club then ended up in Economy lol I was a little disappointed lolol (I had a different picture in my mind because the people I flew with had raved about Virgin and space - but they then told me their last virgin flight was about 15 years ago :rotfl:)

back in the day virgin used to be really good with plenty of leg room even in economy,i first flew VS in 2001 and have used many times since and have seen the quality go downhill especially since 2008 when economic climate first started going belly up.
they really are not like they used to be best way for me to describe them is charter quality for scheduled fare.
I flew long haul with American for first time to JFK last october and found the quality on board the 777 fleet is far superior to the virgin offering and in my opinion money would be better spent travelling with them as the fare was cheaper anyway.
as for the premium economy if you can get a decent rate then go for it but £500 i would not bother as it is not that much better than standard economy,i have flown VS PE once but only did that as i got offered it at airport for decent price and i was on way home and wanted to sleep.

despite all what i have said i will use VS again but it comes down to price these days and not wanting to choose them as they are better than rest like it used to be.

I suppose it depends on the time of the year, phase of the moon and many other variables. WTP is a very small cabin so it can fill up quickly. It could just be that on the days you are looking for there are only a few seats left; hence the higher prices.

If you book into World Traveller then often BA will offer discounted upgrades the week before departure. I think this is only available to flights booked directly with BA, not with a travel agent.

I wouldn't get too hung up on it though. Club World is a big step up in experience, WTP is just a slightly better level of cattle class.

    Hi there
Hotel Thirty-Thirty not far from the ESB.
Ok reviews on Tripadvisor and yes I know the rooms are small :rotfl:

Its funny actually I emailed the hotel asking what the cancellation policy is and I got a reply saying telling me the cancellation policy and also there are no further discounts other than those advertised on the website!!

I re read my email and I hadn't even written anything about further discount lol I was going to do that next.. They read my mind ha ha

    http://www.thirtythirty-nyc.com/

Have a look see what you think
30% until between now and March and an extra 5% off the usual 20% off rate

Ah I was looking forward to a bit of 'luxury' or not.. I'll keep thinking. Maybe wait until I get to the airport. Although tbh as long as I get there safely then it doesn''t matter about upgrade really.

The VS prices are ridiculous! And such variations in price too...

Can anyone advise what is an average price for 4 nights in May? Cheapest I can see is £720 p person flying from Continental on 18th May staying in 2 star midtown hotel. its not for me, its for my mum and stepdad but having never been to new york I'm not sure what is considered a good price or not. any advice? thanks

Glasgow to JFK, flights should be around £400 each. 2 star midtown? no more than $125 ish a night, so with tax, that is about £95 ish, so £400 for hotel, £800 for flights, is £1200. this is just guesswork from what I've paid in the past. Do some research, go onto kayak for flights, quikbook for hotel, and see what you can find out.

    Hi everyone,

Thanks for the replies regarding travel from the airport to our hotel, much appreciated. Am so greatful for everyones help on here have learnt so much about NY from this thread but I would like a bit more help...

We arrive at JFK at 12.00pm on Friday 28/01/11, obviously will then have to travel to hotel and drop bags - We are staying at The Comfort Inn Manhattan, I then need help with something to do that afternoon/ evening? Bearing in mind that I am only 20 so won't be able to Drink.

My boyfriend loves Steak's have been looking at Peter Luger in Brooklyn for the evening as seen it mentioned on here, just wanted to know if its worth it, if not any other suggestions, am looking at spending about £50-60 pp for a nice Steak meal as it's my boyfriend's 21st Birthday!

What is the best way to travel around New York, is it the Subway (sorry Iam a complete novice!!)?

    Hope I've mentioned eveything

    Many Thanks

    A x

Peter Lugers won't be £60 for a meal, you're probably looking at $60.. you know, the US works in dollars, not pounds... ;)

There are at least 9 comfort inn's in Manhattan alone, so you really need to be specific with which one you're staying at.

As for what to do in the evening of your first afternoon/evening, what do you like? I'd go to a museum, but you might find them boring. There are many many things to do, so find a list of things you're interested in.

Subway is the cheapest, and quickest way around, along with walking. Taxi's are really expensive. If you do decide on Peter Lugers for a steak (one of the best places in NYC), you're going to head into Manhattan, so get the J train to Marcy Ave. It's also a really fun train journey, as you head over the Williamsburg Bridge, overground, and you can see Manhattan... The Subway is great, and easy to use.

    Hope that helps

Ok, more hints. Look at the hotels websites, quote their rates to them.. All the e-mails I sent (three, all three replied, and all three with a discount of some sort), were basically like this..
I'm considering staying at your hotel for a stay from March 6th - March 10th (4 nights) for my next vacation to New York City.
I've noticed your rate for a standard king room is $219, however, am asking if there is a possibility of some discount.

What I got then, was $200. I stated it was slightly over budget, and if there was any other chance of even $5 more off per night, and got a reply of, unfortunately not, but they can give me an upgrade.

So, the hotel offers numerous room types. Basic King, Standard King, King with Soaking Tub, Corner King.

Then you get the same room types, but guaranteed high floors.

They have upgraded me from the 2nd class of room, to the High Floor King with Soaking Tub. that room is priced for my stay at $369.

Boutique hotels are better to get discounts, they're smaller. Try the GEM hotel in either Soho, Chelsea, or Midtown, they've got offers on, and also when I e-mailed they chucked in a bit of a discount extra too..
