We had no sense of direction at all Phatbear but we thoroughly enjoyed blindly finding places of interest :T

Think thats one of the best things about NY its a walkers city we love/d walking from one point of interest to the next and checking out everything inbetween.

China town, with the exception of chinatown ice cream factory, is so so however if thats a reason to go back then so be it

Your ESTA is for US border entry. For Canadian border entry you shouldn't need a Visa (unless you have a criminal record) if it's a short stay. We recently entered Canada on a day trip from New York and didn't need anything but our passports.

That's what I wanted to hear lol. Thankyou :)

    Agree with that.

Just got back from the NY this morning and would massively recommend walking over the subway for all but the longest of journeys. The subway is very good but you just don't get the real experience whilst zooming across the city underground.

We stayed at The Pod Hotel on 3rd Av / 51st St and used the subway on two out of the five days - one day to Battery Park for SoL / Ellis Island, Brooklyn Bridge, Wall St and the financial district - and on the last day to get to the airport. Other than that, it was all on foot (aside from a cab from the airport to the hotel).

I'll try and write something up tomorrow. Overall, a fantastic time and a city that I'll definitely visit again. The only disappointment was that poor weather meant that our first full day was a bit of a wash-out - it really knacked up our plans at first but we managed to cram everything in that we really wanted to.

  • its my 30th next year and have always wanted to spend it in New York, am lucky that BF quite likes the idea to so its a goer! Now have no idea where to stay although friends have recommended the Hyatt Grand Central station but its coming up at 800 for 4 nights (4/8 - 8/8) is this a good deal and a good hotel?

Just want to do touristy things really so any tips (may do a friends tour?) also imagine it to be quite a romantic city?

Also looking for somewhere wow to eat on my 30th any ideas (its the saturday night?)

Hyatt hopefully will be good (going there soon ) and ive read good reports about it . If you want to do touristy things a great location next to Central Station . Food just ngo into TA or top table etc and find the food you like NYC is so cosmopolitain that it caters for all tastes and some youve never thought of $800 (is it $$) isnt too bad for NYC but shop around different websites to try to get it down we reserched on line and called into Thomas Cook for a nose told them our best price so far and they matched it and threw in transferes from JFK & back. Booked in a nano
 hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world
