I'm posting something that was forwarded to me. I won't be in the States this year, so cannot verify either the offer, or the website. Maybe someone else can do that. So, Caveat Emptor and all that, I did go through the first section and it seemed to work.
1) Go to www.restaurant.com
2) Buy a gift certificate for a restaurant you would like to eat at. In this example, I would like 4 x $25 gift certificates for Welcome to Orchidea, 12th Avenue, NY, which is being sold at a very reasonable $10 each.
3) At the checkout screen, type in 'PLATE' as your promo code.
4) Watch in amazement as your $100 worth of food for $40 is now available for $8.
Valid before 31st July.
I'm going to cross post this in the Vegas thread. Someone let us know how it goes
Restaurant.com almost always have a discount code on - well worth it if you are going to use any of the listed restaurants (but sadly near useless for single travellers).Gone ... or have I?0 -

Day 4 Wed: Central park bike ride then shopping on 5th ave
Day 5 Thu: Nothing planned until Mets game in the evening:-)
Day 6 Fri: Statue of liberty then ground 0 and shopping arround soho/noho area

Day 8 Sun: Nothing planned
Day 9 Mon: Brooklyn botanic gardens then NY aquarium and coney island

To be honest, I think the Empire State Building is overrated and the queues are very long. The best time to go is early morning otherwise you can waste the best part of a day there. If you really want to go up then don't leave it until the last day or you may leave disappointed.
I think that the Top of the Rock is better (http://www.topoftherocknyc.com) - the view is better (closer to Central Park) and you get to actually see the Empire State.0 -

Hi,
Just wondered where you got your tickets for the mets game, we are looking at going to NYC in the near future and looked at getting tickets but couldn't work out how to get them??
Cheers

Tight schedule.
Uss intrepid, spent nearly all day there myself.
Central park bike ride, was very hot and sweaty, dunno if i'd want to go shopping after?
Coney island,1hr 10 mins on the subway, also aquarium and no doubt funfair, its an all day affair that one.
SOL(passport control affair at battery park) / Ground 0 and shopping, really pushing it.
I went early June, weather was a real hot one, certainly restrictive.
Days 1,7,8 spread some the action over these days, perhaps TOTR or ES buidlings that day 1 afternoon?
Dont forget the sea lion demo at aquarium at coney island,if you go,its a good show.Official MR B fan club, dont go............................0 -

agreed i think ES is overrated aswell, however i have booked tickets still for when i go in oct but got TOTR ones aswell and intend doing both on same day.
With OP's schedule i think i would use one of the spare days for these and have free time on day you travel back.as said the ES queues can be quite big when i went in 2007 it took about 4 hours from entering building to going up and back down again via the skytour thing they have inside.so i would rather not be doing that before heading to JFK,i would prefer a bit of leisurely shopping if i had evening flight.0 -
Thanks for all the help guys, thats just the kind of info i'm after. I will go and tinker with the schedule and come back for your thoughts.
@bara03 I got the Mets tickts by going to the official mlb site, then picking the mets from the drop down "team" menu, if you then click on schedule it will take you to a calendar, you can then click on the "t" logo on the game you want to go to. It will give you the option to have the tickets sent in the post or print them at home.0 -

I have used restaurant.com vouchers in Vegas. You have an account and can log in and print them off. Had no problems with using them, but you must be fully aware of the terms and conditions. e.g minimum spend, gratuity added etc. Also can only use one voucher from your account at the same restaurant once in a month. If your stay covers the end of one month / beginning of next month you could get away with using two vouchers at one restaurant.
The restaurant will phone restaurant.com to validate the voucher, so no point in trying to use the same one twice. By logging into your accout you can see which vouchers are still available to use.
We had no trouble at all in using the vouchers. The biggest discounts on restaurant.com are usually at the end of the month, but there are limited vouchers available for some restaurants, and the most popular ones will go very quickly at the beginning of the month when the next batch of vouchers are released.
Haven't used the vouchers in New York yet. I don't know which restaurants to go for, and not sure I can plan my holiday around being in the right place at the right time in New York. It just seemed to be easier in Vegas.0 -
Hi. This may sound silly, but me and partner have never been to the states before and are heading to new york in noveber; is all that we will need to aquire an ESTA which we do beforehand? Besides having a passport, obviously lol, is there anything else we will need to allow us to travel? Thanks.0
