We are going to NY in October and I have found lot's of useful info on here and would like to say thank you to all who contribute.

Recently it has become apparent that it can ( and has for some) taken up to 2 hours to clear security etc.

I have been told by a friend of a friend that in the security hall area (in JFK) that there are NO TOILETS?!!

Also after that bloke tried to blow up the plane with explosive in his undies, they said that they were not going to let people go to the toilet on the plane IN THE LAST HOUR OF THE FLIGHT?

My question is 1) Is the "stay in your seat for the last hour of the flight rule" being imposed at moment?

    2) are there ANY TOILETS when you get off the plane BEFORE you enter the security area?

I am older than most of you and I get "nervous bladder" :-( so I am in a bit of a tizz wondering if I will have to cross my legs for up to 3 HOURS??????!!!!!!)

Please can anyone enlighten me as to the reality of the toilet facilities?

Also can anyone tell me what sort of shops & stuff to buy they have in JFK when you get airside ( to use up any left over $ LOL!)

    Many thanks in advance :)

I can only speak for terminal 4 of JFK and say they have toilets before you get to immigration, as you come down the ramp and just before the q's there is a loo on the left.

The no toilet 1 hour before landing has never been imposed on a flight ive been on, however approx 30mins or so before landing you will have to put your lap belt on and therefore the loo's are then out of bounds, the same as if you hit turbulance you wont be able to use the loo.

There probably isn't in the security hall but there were loos in the BA terminal on the ramp (to the right) just before immigration, I recall using them as we then had to join the back of this huge queue. Under half the booths were manned, it was roasting and my hand luggage was in a not so light back pack. It took us about 75 mins to get through, but that was quicker than expected.

It may have just been our flight but the landing / take-off / taxi-ing time at JFK did seem to take a wee while, about an hour in our case was probably right.

Thanks guys, that helps me, will def "go" as much as poss before heading to immigration!

Phatbear, you are in " the business" I believe? I have a question you may be able to help me with.

My elderly parents just love peanut butter stuff and I was wanting to bring them back some peanut butter breakfast cereals and some candy/choc ( all peanut butter related) will this be allowed through UK customs?
Which channel would I go through with this kind of thing? ( we are veggie so no chance of anything of animal origin)

Thank you very much in advance :)

Peanut butter filled candy/chocolate is allowed. I brought back a few packets of Reese’s Peanut Butter cups and had no problem.

I was however, stopped at airport security for trying to bring back a jar of peanut butter, which unknown to me at the time, is considered a liquid/gel.
