    Hello everyone
just to say thanks for this post I have always wanted to go to America and have booked the family to go for under 600 in the Oct half term!

I read everyones input and its right the prices in New York are mad. After much seaching I have found these apartments on https://www.sidestep.com
    The Oxbridge Apts Theater District.

They have pretty good reviews on tripadviser and have a bedroom with double bed and lounge with pull out sofa bed and another bed you can put up if you wish! There is a small kitchen off the lounge the location is just off times square.

But best of all is the price, four nights have cost me 515 USD (approx 380 pounds) I hope this helps someone looking for cheap apartments.
But if ever I stray from the path I follow
Take me down to the English Channel
Throw me in where the water is shallow And then drag me on back to shore!
'Cos love is free and life is cheap As long as I've got me a place to sleep
Clothes on my back and some food to eat I can't ask for anything more

Enjoy New York, it's fantastic and you won't be disappointed.

Right some good money saving tips. Visit https://www.newyorkpass.com this allows you to pre book and pay for a pass that gets you into lots of the attractions free on production. It comes with a good guide too.

I don't think anyone else has posted this yet, there is 15% off 3 and 7 day new york passes bought before 31 July. They can be bought from the website above and used any time in the next 12 months.

Has anyone else got experiance of how much value for money you get from these? I'm going to visit friends in November for 10 days so was thinking of getting a 7 day pass.

We always stay at the Hotel Metro because the breakfasts are AMAZING, and you can collect enough giant muffins to get you through the day. It also has 24 hr coffee, which is very welcome if you are staying in the winter.

when we stayed at hotel metro,we managed to bump into the resident RAT, in the hotels "executive lounge"

he was probably feasting on the free breakfasts too! lol

still a nice hotel though, with lots of free hot chocolate!

THIS site may be of use to some people. I had a cancellable reservation booked at the Marriott Financial Center at $239 per night (in case my Priceline bidding comes to nothing) and found the same nights at $175 per night. I cancelled and re-booked at the cheaper rate, which is also cancellable up to the day before arrival.

You will find better bargains with Priceline.
  • Yep your right, its hotwires sister company, and very complicated with multiple bids ect oh and its USA Canada users only!
I find hotwire nice and simple and have had massive savings using that site.I would expect to pay 50% of lastminite.com expedia ect ect.Hotwire even sell hotel rooms in the UK and even they are miles cheaper than can be bought over here.
I have just been on hotwire for a 4*hotel at Heathrow on September 11 it quotes a 4 star at $54 that’s £30!!! using various uk sites the cheapest was £89.

    explain priceline.co.uk to me then...???
  • In one word rubbish!(compared to the USA version) i presumed we were talking about priceline.com!

    In one word rubbish!

That would be more of a description.

My point is that UK users can use priceline, not just US/Canadian users.

The 'hotel search' part of priceline is rubbish, but the 'name your own price' section is what the site is all about.
