Not sure how proactive the checking is, but once the biometric stuff comes in this Autumn/next year, the checks will be very proactive.

All airlines have to submit customer data to the US authorities within 20 minutes of take off from the originating country. If they don't, the US will deny them landing rights and fine the airline. It has been law since shortly after 9/11.

& that is how Cat Stevens was caught out ( I think)

I'm going to NY in early May 07 but the prices are much higher than they are a few months from now. Is it best to wait until 3 or 4 months before you go rather than 10? I always thought booking early got you better prices?

Any advice on when to buy flights to NY would be greatly appreciated.
if i had known then what i know now
  • They have some specials on at the mo. I don't think they go that far in advance though.

I think you will find they do. Log in with your boarding reference number and have a look. They require the same information as all airlines.

Otherwise all the terrorists and illegal immigrants would travel AA!!!

    Hi actiongirl

you've really piqued my interest here, so i've dug out my E-tickets.

& it doesn't show my passport number anywhere, which isn't a surprise because I never gave it to them in the booking process online.
There is also nothing whatsoever about where I'm going to stay in America and there is a very good reason for that. I booked the flight tickets back in May, but I only booked the first portion of my accomodation tonight !

so on both accounts - nowt doing.

p.s. if the Feds are monitoring this page, I'm not a baddie, even though I am flying AA.:D

My e-ticket for BA doesn't mention anyhting either, but logging into 'Manage my Booking' there is a section stating that they MUST have all of my info before I fly...

I think you will find that if you don't fill in online, they will ask you when you get to the airport.

US immigration require this information, so there is no getting away from it.

    Hi richardj

You & Tankgirls have relly got me thinking & digging out may paperwork now !

OK, first off, there is nowhere on the AA booking form that I have ever put on my passport number and for the reasons I have said above I have obviously never said where I am staying in America.

At the airport in England, I go through the rigmarole o0f enhanced security BEFORE checkin where my passport is checked against my ticket etc, and we get the third degree on bags, security, purpose of holiday etc and whilst we have been asked for purpose of visit (holiday & to see the inlaws), and they have asked where we are staying - they have always been happy with the answer of "staying with my Dad in Kentucky". More to the point, we know that we've never EVER given more details at the English airport end because we would have needed to dig through our paperwork to get his address/zipcode etc.

On the plane is a different matter as I can always recall is having to fill in both of the forms with all of our details.

The route that I take to the US in Man - Chicago and we went in May last year and Nov last year. Mabye things have changed since then, or different airports do things differently, but that is how it has worked for us.
Saying that, when we his Immigration at Chicago, the process isn't to quick and at this point they do want to confirm that our first nights accomodation matches the same address that we declared on the plane.
