I want to travel to NY in early September, can anyone help me find a cheap deal?0

Well in this thread, it is suggested that $55 a night will get you the Hyatt Regency. Which is apparantly 20 minutes from central manhatten, ie closer than a lot of Manhatten! However as mentioned in that thread, I'm having absolutely no luck trying to secure a booking, do any experienced Priceliners have any suggestions?+0

Patience is a virtue;)
I've read your PM and your pleas here, I'm a bit busy now but I'll get back to you soonish.
Honest!
Look at this web-site for info while you wait.
Their maps section is very useful, use the zoom and scroll tho find the Hyatt (across the Hudson on the LHS of the map) hold the mouse pointer over the Hotel and an info box pops up.0 -

It's fairly easy.
Here's an old thread with links0 -

Right. NYC.
JFK to Mahattan (not 'en' as per previous spellings!:o sorry, I am a stickler!) is a fixed $60 fare taxi including tip and tunnel toll. This works out about £35.
Mahattan to Newark is about the same, although there is only a fixed price from the airport to the city, and not return. We always book a car from the hotel which comes to $70 inclusive to either JFK or Newark, but can be relied upon to be at the hotel on time.
There is very little difference in price, though I think Newark is slightly closer.
We always stay at the Hotel Metro because the breakfasts are AMAZING, and you can collect enough giant muffins to get you through the day. It also has 24 hr coffee, which is very welcome if you are staying in the winter.
Saying that, we are going for the Roosevelt this year, purely on the strength of their chocolate martini sampled last Christmas!
There is no such thing as a cheap NYC hotel. In my book, NYC costs as much as London. Sorry.

Hi all
I realise that there have probably been numerous posts on this subject, but this is of quite a specific nature. I'm of to New York City in September with my boyfriend for 6 days. We'll be staying with my friend in the Upper West Side for all but the first night. We're arriving at JFK at 10.30pm so with possible delays, nightmarishly long queues at customs (took me 2 hours to get through immigration last time at Newark) and alll the rest it's too late to stay at my friend's on a work night as we'd be unlikely to get there before 2am.
So ... we're looking for a budget place to stay for the first night (though had a bad experience last time in a cheap place so don't want rats or cockroaches nearby this time!), somewhere that's preferably easy to access on the subway from JFK airport (can't remember which line that is) ... doesn't have to be glam or in a fab location but I guess somewhere we can leave our bags and then pick them up late pm before heading over to my friend's place would be ideal so we can maximise our time sightseeing and shopping on the first day.
Does anyone know NYC enough to be able to recommend an area that would be convenient taking into account the above and maybe even some budget hotels (have been shocked at prices so far).
Also - I don't want to get one of those NY visitor day cards as really didn't get my money's worth from one last time (can't be bothered to tramp around museums, plenty of free ones in London I never visit), does any one know of any good ways for getting discount coupons on tourist attractions, bars, restaurants etc.?0 -

Yep. I always expect to pay £300 - £400 for my flights.
Tip - if you are going BA, you can book your seats online as soon as the tickets are paid for. There are some rows toward the back of the plane, (three I think) where there are sets of two seats on each side. Unless you are at the very back, you can still put your seats back, and there is loads of room for your legs and bags! And you get dinner first!!!!!0
