Welcome to QT and Elaine and welcome back to Savingsgirl. Isn't it great how many new posters there are lately. The board fame has spread far and wide.
The term 'obese' is a particularly unpleasant one, but if it makes us more aware of the harm we are doing to ourselves, it's worth it. One thing we all share on this board is the knowledge of what it feels like to be overweight and that's why we can support and motivate each other so well.
Someone mentioned 'not doing deprivation' and I do so agree. Deprivation is a diet killer - and there's no need for it (well not with SW anyway). Enjoy your food, but make it healthy, filling food, not the empty calories provided by sweets, biscuits and crisps. Drink lots of water every day and do a little extra moving around. There's no need to join a gym, unless you really want to. Walking is one of the best exercises and it's free. Start by doing 15 mins for 3 or 4 days a week. It should be done at a pace to make you warm and a BIT breathless (not steaming and gasping, lol).
Savingsgirl, one of my favourite sayings is with regard to falling off the wagon - "failure isn't when you fall, it's when you stay down...and success isn't never failing, it's getting up again and again and again".
If you don't keep trying, for sure you won't succeed!I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -
This is a really nice board I only tumbled onto by accident as I am more into to savings and debt side on MSE. However I think the two a linked to clear debt you have to be motivated and it is of course the same with weight. I think much more what I put in my mouth now that before I found this little club. I have only been a member 12 days but really enjoy reading the posts and you guys are so clever with your plans.
I have never tried one or gone to a club just cutting out the junk is really enough for me to loose weight. I want to learn more and that is what this thread is giving me as well as a lot of encouragement. It feels like I have already got to know some of the people on the board and it does become quite addictive.

Last night was like a famine on here and today its a feast
Welcome to all the new posters - QT, Elaine, Faithlessand welcome back to savingsgirl. I wonder how many of us there are now!
To join the 2lb just post on here or send a PM to Lois Lane - founder member, secretary and chairperson of said club :rotfl:
I'm just trying to read back through the thread to see how much weight I set my target loss as for Augusttoo many posts to go through, I may be gone some time.
Had a v stressful day house sale/purchase wise. Had a new potential buyer but they were putting us under a lot of pressure to accept offer and move out quickly - my IBS has been playing up big time - and so today we told them we werent accepting it. What a weight has lifted off my shoulders, I have been dreading the phone ringing all week incase its them - they managed to persuade OH to give them our home phone number
Had a good day food wise - mum made me and kids dinner as I was soo stressed - SW chips, egg and beans, my absolute favourite.
Consultant - can you help? You may remember a few weeks ago I bought frys turkish delight. I worked it out using the syns calculator to be 9 syns and it remains uneaten in my fridge :A Mum says that our consultant told them at class this week that they are 4 1/2 syns. Now, if this is the case it will not remain in my fridge much longer :EasterBun Can you (or anyone) shed any light0 -
Hi everyone,
my goodness, 3 pages and it's only 7.50! That's a lot of support going on :T today.
Welcome QT2006 and everyone else new to the thread. :hello: QT - I have to say, I'm in almost the same situation as you. I'm 5ft 5 and currently weigh 14st 11lbs. I have lost over a stone since May and my top weight around 2000 - 2002 was 18st. I eventually lost weight because OH and I were trying for a baby (otherwise I was perfectly happy with myself) and were being refused infertility treatment because of my morbid obesity. I now want to lose weight for myself and my son. I don't want to be out of breath and not able to keep up with him . Also, I don't want my weight to shorten my life. It's not fair on DS for his mummy not to live as long as possible when it was my choice to have him, it's my responsibility to look after myself so I'm healthy enough to look after him for as long as he needs me. I have followed both WW and SW in the past 3 months and have to admit, I find SW much easier to follow. There's less feelings of deprivation - eat as much free foods as you like and choose green or red days, plus healthy extras, plus syns if you want them! can't beat it with a big stick. WW no count is similar but I found 3 points a day (21 per week) for a treat, just not enough... (compare 3 custard creams a day on WW to a potential 5 on SW) - It just depends on what your diet poison is!
Think I'm in need of a cheeky mole style kick up the bum..... I have taken two days off work to spend some time with DS and my Mum, just going shopping etc. and I was doing really well until this afternoon. Had my usual rice for breakfast and went to a cafe with my mum and niece for lunch - jacket potato, beans and a side salad :j (totally impressed with myself). But then I heard the call of the ice-cream (magnum to be exact) as it's been a really lovely day over here in Norn Iron. I've since succumbed to apple pie and liquorice allsorts (bought for the dog but I love them too). I've just calculated my syns for the day and it stands at a horrifying 55:eek: In my defence - it is a star week and my defences are low. I did have a good day yesterday but it's just as well my weigh in isn't till next tuesday. In fact if there was an optimum binge day, it's probably today. Feeling quite bloated so off now to make my dinner (all free food of course) and have some peppermint tea.... btw HONEY have you tried drinking peppermint tea for your IBS yet?
I'm sure I'll have a better day tomorrow (more shopping and day trips but bad weather due so won't feel the temptation of ice creams).
Good luck everyone and stick with it. (I'm off now before the name of the thread changes to I wanna gag Dellybelly :rotfl: )Goal for 09: Get fit and foxy. target weight 11st. 5/80.Get out of dead end job and work for career I always wanted.0 -
Rachel and tallgirl, I think you both have a similar job to me, out on the road all day most days and lots of entertaining and hotels, sounds great but it can be hard to be good when naughty stuff is on the menu, not to mention the alcohol.
I have been really good today, kept a note of everything I have eaten, made a SW recipe for dinner, lovely pork meatballs with a yummy tomato sauce with pasta (using Syns). Now resisiting the temptation to open a bottle of wine and add a squillion flexible syns to the mix!0 -
Wow, much activity today!
Welcome QT, I've only been here a few days too and everyone's great, it's made a huge difference to me already. I find coming in here reminds me what I want to achieve and helps me focus on my goals.
I am shorter AND heavier than you, so am definitely obese. But I have decided that because there's so much to lose, and it's going to take me a long time to lose it, I don't want to go mad and then give up. I'm just going to take it slow and steady.
So my portions are smaller, my snacks are healthier and I am making the effort to walk a little more often and further than usual. I won't lose it quickly but that's ok - it took a long time to get this way so I'm prepared for it to be a long journey to come back to a normal weight. To be honest, just having access to the posts here is great for lifting the spirits.
Good luck, and take your time - it'll be worth it in the end!0 -
Dagnamit. New RC (new location) class was cancelled tonight so i'll never know if i lost anything this week.
Felt annoyed enough about it to drag myself out for a run which i've avoided doing for about a month now. Run was pretty good (especially as i have new bouncy runnign shoes!!).
I, like lisele i think, am doing the interval running but decided to just keep going this time and achieved 2 lots of four minutes (instead of 8 one minutes), which is rather good for me! I must get a pedometer though...
Sorry to hear about more stress for you honey. Can't believe you haven't succumbed to the turkish delight yet - you're doing very well!!0 -

Sorry Honey the Fry's TD cakesare 4½ syns, the actual TD bars are
9½ - so perhaps it's best left in the fridge - or chop it into small pieces and put in the freezer. When you want some, take out about ¼ of it and enjoy just 2 syns worth. It takes longer to suck and oh I want some too now :rotfl:I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -
I'm tempted Jeni, very tempted. Whats torturing me more is the nice chilled bottle of rose that is in my fridge. Thing is I know that if I open it for "just one glass" it will turn into the whole bottle. I want to save it for the weekend tho - that's what makes me keep opening fridge and close it again!
Delly - how do you make the rice pudding for brekkie. Yes, I have tried peppermint tea, I find it helps a lot. In fact tonight I went to get a cup only to find that the contents of that particular cupboard (special teas, baking stuff, flour etc) have been blooming well packed and are sitting in my mums spare room  I hate this whole moving house thing now
I meant to say earlier Jeni - didnt know you were getting married this year - all the best for it, whatever or wherever you decide to do it!0
