Hey savingsgirl.
Never tried slimfast but then the reason why i'm overweight is cause i ate too much of the wrong stuff for years (i have a huge appetite). Now i'm eating loads but just of the right stuff and that works for me. Different things work for different people though and if you can manage with slimfast then that's great. The only downsize is you don't end up changing the bad habits that made you put on weight in the first place!!
Good luck with whatever you do0 -
hi savingsgirl, i tried slimfast and yes it does work - but it's really only a quickfix omigod i HAVE to fit into that dress in a fortnights time. Once you stop i found the weight goes back on, becasue as Jen says, you haven't learned anything. When i did it i was working for mcdonalds and was having 'a delicious nutritious shake for breakfast, 1 for lunch' and my proper meal was 9 chicken nuggets as that maximised my calorie allowance and my free food allowance at work. Not healthy - but i did fit into the dress. But only once! You can download a sample menu from the SW website and i would recommend giving it a go. Good luck!!
Question for everyone . . . .
Does sushi have a free food allowance when calculating syns? planning to have a Tesco sushi wrap for lunch and hoping to get away with it.0 -
Thank you everyone for the support yesterday, i feel so much more positive 2day annd i am very happy i joined up. consultant31, honey28, dellybelly and eels100, thank you so much for your welcomes and advice. I have decided to take this very seriously, I have already drank two cups of water and I've only been up for 2 1/2 hours. As it is raining right now, I am going to do some exercise on the steps...
Anywhoo..I have decided to go food shopping today there is too much
temptation in my house so I want to change it to a healthy household.
Any suggestions as to what foods to buy?
Well done savingsgirl..
Katiepoppycat..I have no idea about the sushi thing..sorry
I hope all you guys go well and you meet your target, have a good one!!0 -
QT2006 I fully agree with you it is about eliminating temptation in the house so I have stopped buying all biscuits, crips etc and stocked up on raisins, carrots, apples, blueberry's and other summer fruits which are lovely for breakfast. I am not following a set plan just trying to cut out junk and eat more healthly.
Good luck with it all after a while (only done it for 2 weeks) it does become easier to avoid temptation. I can now walk into a coffee bar in a service station and not get tempted by all the lovely cakes they have on display.
Take care and good luck.Save £12k in 25 No 49

Dellybelly Yes your rice, Quorn and veg tea is indeed free, and it sounds lovely too
. I have made the rice pud quite a few times and it really is filling - real comfort food. The 700mls of skimmed milk is 2 HEAs though.
Katiepoppycat I'm not 100% sure, but I would expect most sushi to be syn free. It's something I've never tried, but it's only boiled rice and fish or seaweed isn't it? Could they be fried at all?
QT You'll need lots of fresh fruit and vegetables to start with. Rice, pasta, yogurts (check that they're very low fat). I have stopped eating bread, because I find it slows my weight loss down too much, but if you can't live without it, you'll need the wholemeal sort. Tins of tomatoes with garlic or herbs are brilliant for making quick pasta sauces. I buy big jars of passatta and bags of frozen mixed veg (from somewhere cheap like Nettos) and make my own soup (really quick, easy and tasty!). You can make quick and easy green day lunches with a big jacket potato and a tin of beans or spaghetti, so stock up on the tinned stuff too. If you're a meat eater, you'll find extra lean mince and chicken breasts are quick to prepare.
You may have noticed the word 'quick' popping up a lot with me, that's because I find, at the end of a days work, I really don't want to have to wait long for my meal or I'm liable to nibble on something I shouldn't!!
Maybe it would be a good idea if we got together and sorted out a basic free or low-syn shopping list for any newbies to access.
What a foul and horrible day - it's not stopped raining for the last 24 hours here. My son and his fiance and daughter and her husband are off to a music festival for the weekend (in a tent even  ). I've been gathering wellies and raincoats for them all morning - not going to be much fun I imagine. Then again, maybe it's me that's too old for all that stuff - they seem to relish the sludge :rotfl:I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -
lol..thanks guys
I hope that i will be able to pass all the pastries and apple pies....umm..
Yep i like veg anyway..so i will get loads, only problem i found is that eating healthy is expensive, a couple of months ago i tried this healthy eating regime (that didn't last)..i cut out all the custard creams and crisps...but my shopping bill was about 50% higher, also with vegetables and fruit they don't last long, the other day I brought a banana from tesco's it looked great 2 days later it was black as charcoal..
But i will stop rambling now..and do some exercise...
Cheers

It might be worth trying the frozen fruit you can get, as it seems a bit cheaper. I know Tescos and Aldis do some tropical ones as well as the usual ones like mixed summer berries.0 -

I find that if you go early morning to the supermarket, lots of fruit and veg are reduced (to be used that day). Of course, if you have a local market, they're invariably cheaper than shops for fresh stuff. Once you count how much you used to spend on rubbish, I don't find it costs much more to be healthy AND you get the added bonus of looking and feeling so much better :T .
Like Faithless says, the frozen fruits are just as good for you and they're quite reasonable in my local Iceland. Plus they're there all year round, not just the summer months. Some thawed summer fruits with a Mullerlight poured over makes a lovely breakfast, yum!!!I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -

I hate brown bananas too but they do make really nice smoothies. I use orange juice, bananas and frozen summer berries (although blueberry are cheap at the moment) and it taste yum. I also find they are useful for chucking left over fruit into even if it has gone a bit too soft.
I have found that in Sainsburry it is better to buy summer fruits and than fruits of the forrest as that includes frozen grapes which really isn't great in a smoothie.Save £12k in 25 No 49
