Oh and one more question. Syn free chips are quoted as being 8 syns on a Red Day but can you use your HEB allowance of potatoes to make chips so they then become syn free? Thanks
YesCan I ask and opinion on whether people think what they have eaten the day before changes their weigh in.
YesI haven't got one!0 -
Thanks Cheekymole, much appreciated. Chips tonight then, hurrah!!0

Blue Monkey, weigh yourself once a week then lock the scales in the bottom of a very big box for the rest of the week *stern look*your weight fluctuates naturally during the week. (Listen to me the getting skinny expert I can talk the talk but can't flaming walk the walk (unless I'm happy and then we're fine!) My mother was a weight watchers tutor/leader type lady so I've picked up a bit of knowledge!)
And I have no idea what goes on in this Slimming Woirld malarky (what is a syn, actually scratch that I don't think I want to know!) but I think that if it's a red day you eat meat? In which case would your penguins not count as a red day?
Sorry, I'll get my coat ;-)
Btw am taking the advice of whoever said drink more water so thanks to them :-)Comping, freebieing and trying to pay the mortgage off early!0 -
Hi Everyone ... this is fab a weightloss board in moneysaving ... my 2 favourite things ... i think i'm heaven !!
Had a really bad day last Sunday, I went to the Trafford centre to look for a new dress (i'm going to a wedding 29th July) and had to buy a size 18, i haven't had to do that before but i couldn't get any of the size 16's done up ... in fact i was restriced to what fitted in the 18's and not which dress was nicest. Was so angry with myself ... used to be a 14 trying for 12 ... now bigger than ever.
So the good thing is i've joined a gym. My BF was soo pleased with me he treated me to pizza (not sure that was the best thing but never mind!). I had intended to start my diet this week but it didnt really work. We're also going to my Dad's tonight (he's been minding daughter today) & he does the best food !
Anyway having seen this board and read all the posts have decided to start Monday. I'm going to do weight watchers online (I did ok last time i followed that).
Can i join the 2lb club? That looks like a fab idea and will give me something easier to aim for! I can post my start weight on Monday and then any loss the week after? Did i read it right, is that how it works?
Thanks & bfn.

Hi Lou - yes, of course you can, welcome
You don't have to reveal your weight if you don't want to. I'll add you to the list with next Monday's date as your start date, then the following week, if you can post your first week's weight loss, I'll update the chart. Good luck.
Not being able to find clothes that I like is the biggest motivation to lose weight for me, so I know how you feel. I'm currently faced with a wardrobe full of clothes that I can't get into and it's making me so mad, but I'm not going to buy more in a bigger size. I'm making do until I manage to get back into them again. I have another problem at the moment, which is that I'm likely to be looking for a new job soon, and I haven't got an interview suit that fits!

Can I ask and opinion on whether people think what they have eaten the day before changes their weigh in. I had a green day yesterday and for lunch had canned spaghetti on jacket potato (I could not have bread as was saving my HEB for my 2 Alpen light, LOL) and then for dinner I had macaroni cheese with cauliflower & broccoli followed by rice pudding. I wonder if eating so much rice, pasta and potatoes affects how it is digested or does that just sound daft? Oh and I do a market each Saturday and found the food stall over the other side has Bacon, tomatoes and mushrooms for the bargain price of £1!! Perfect for a red day and fill a hole nicely instead of the usual sweets. The other thing is, when I started out on the plan I was having porridge oats for breakfast and lost weight but we ran out so I started having 2 Weetabix have not lost anything at all. Does this just sound ridiculous or could there be something in the weetabix that is not doing me any good?

Hi Blue - good to hear from you, hope you're well apart from the frustrations with not losing weight!
I'm sure Consultant31 will tell us this is wrong, but I do believe it makes a difference if you have a green or red day before weighing in. I used to go to class on Mondays, and I always made sure that Monday was a red day. Sundays always used to be red anyway, so that I could have my bacon and eggs for brunch followed by a roast dinner! I do think that the bulk of carbohydrates in the digestive system can affect weight, and if I'd had pasta or potatoes before getting weighed I'd expect to weigh more.

I feel a bit of a fraud popping on here once a week while every one else posts daily. I have still not cuaght up with last weeks messages yet. This is the only time I get while the little uns are at pre-school giving me 2 hours of peace and quiet to catch up on my emails and er... housework!!
Blue, in the words of a certian telly advert "Every little helps" :T I never know what to say either but words are just that 'words' some of us are just better at arranging them in order than me :rotfl:
With regards to your weight jumping around over a couple of days, dont worry, I was concerned about this and spoke with my dietician about it, she told me to only weigh myself every two weeks!! I dont manage that is seems to be every ten days, so try and resist the urge:D
Anyways hang on to the moments when you notice yourself looking slimmer, they are much more fun, I even notice those days, and Im male :j  :j

Here you all are, got a bit lost with the last thread being finished! I don't feel I can give any advice as I'm only a beginner, so I hope other posters do not think I'm ignoring their questions - I am reading it all with interest and hoping everyone is keeping motivated
Well, myself and pug senior both lost half a lb this week, with mixed feelings.
Dad was not pleased and referred to this as the 'bad news', he has so far lost 15lbs (over two weigh ins), which is great but can't be sustained.
He was a bit ticked off as we have both been sticking to it, although I had a drink one night which I reckon was why i only lost half - alcohol doesn't agree with me very often and can make me feel wretched. I did save points (WW) for this so so it was factered in.
To be honest I was sort of relived - having lost 3lb adb 4lb at the last two WI's I knew I couldn't keep that up, and I really want to be consistent so I can keep going.
I think my dad's problem is that he is not eating up all his points. He gets 32 per day, and he was at one point eating only 20. He just says he 's not hungry. He has been better this week after talking to the leader, who suggested pick some foods with higher values.
I know he will blame his little loss on using more points - he is still psychologically locked into all the other diets he has done - no carbs, no bread, etc. I love toast and that's my treat of an evening, he is just so stubborn!
He's a medical professional so knows all there is about diets and such, so for instance he knows about keeping his metabolic rate up and that.
Its hard for me to monitor what he is eating and get him to eat more, because I get a much lower points allowance so I can't eat as much as him. He won't treat himself, say, to an ice cream which is lovely in the heat. He saves up some points for beer one night a week but this is hardly a struggle because he is hardly using them!
To clarify, I'm pleased with my half pound - every penny counts, but I'm hoping for 1lb to 2lb next week
He isn't going to quit like he would normally because I am going to, but how can I get him to just flipping well do it properly??!!0 -

Carbs can make some people retain fluid, so if you are one of those people, it makes sense to have a couple of Red days before weight-in. Slimmers who do all Green (like me) tend to not have the same problem because their body has got used to the carbs and acts accordingley.
If you do retain fluid though, the very best way of getting rid of it is to drinks pints and pints of water, though not just before weigh-inI let my mind wander and it never came back!0
